Is this common from Discover?

I recently applied for a Discover Secured Card back in January 2019, after my first statement and paying it off in full of $41 being reported. I recently called to see if I qualify for a product change to the Discover Cash Back 5% credit card and was immediately accepted into the new rewards card. It starts after my billing cycle on April 4th.

I assumed I had to wait the full graduation period to qualify for a product change, was I qualified off of good payments with other credit cards or just a stroke of luck?

Re: Is this common from Discover?

I got my Discover secured card last November and called them about PCing to the 5% categories shortly after it arrived in the mail. I was told by the CSR that I had to wait until the first statement posted. The day after I received my statement I called again and they were more then willing to change it over. The rewards then changed over after the 2nd statement.

It left me with less than 2 weeks to take advantage of the Q4 wholesale club bonus. I was able to snag $500 of Costco gift cards. I wish I had had a higher credit limit so I could have used the full $1500 of the 5% cash back, oh well.

Did your limit stay the same? edit:  Also, did it unsecure?

I wouldn't personally know until my next billing cycle. He just kept congratulating me over the phone for some odd reason. I'm going to assume it'll stay secured with the same limit but I'll get you updated after April 4th.

Update: Fully converted to the Cash Back discover card. I asked about if my limit would increase, he said next month in May I'll get an increase.

Re: Is this common from Discover?

Nice! My Secured Discover it graduated pretty quickly, but I have yet to get a PC to the Cash Back card. You've inspired me. I'm calling today!

Update: Called, got PC'd to the Cash Back card in 30 seconds. Woot!

He told you that they're giving you a CLI on a secured card? Sounds like he didn't realize your card is secured.

Or it might be in process... Still think discover is crunching the numbers on graduations before they actually do it..

Do come back and confirm if it graduates....

Re: Is this common from Discover?

When i looked into getting my first Discover card they did say they graduate your secured card within 6months depending on your credit. If you are approved for a standard card they evaluate you for CLIs after 6 months as well. You do have to be with Discover for at least 1 year to get a second card tho. I went for the Chrome card at the 11month mark and was denied, waited for the 1 year mark and was approved for $4k. They also sent me a saving account offer at the 12 month mark as well, so keep a lookout for that as well.
