Re: Most Prestigious Credit Cards?!

If you're interested in travel cards, your question is difficult to answer since it depends on what airline you frequently, use, or what hotel chain, etc. But for basic cash back, or for low APR cards, you can find some good cards in this thread:  http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Cash-Back-credit-card-charts/td-p/4004725

At least, I think thats what you mean by Prestigious, basically good cards that are worth obtaining and keeping for as long as the cards aren't nerfed.

Re: Most Prestigious Credit Cards?!

I mean I was looking around myself and I don't really think there's a whole lot to choose from anyway. I mean it's not like the market is exactly over saturated with these cards.

When I look at credit card reviews, it's all really the same couple of flagship cards. Amex Blue Cash, the Venture, Citi Double Cash. I mean we know about all of these already. And how many cash back cards do you really need? Once you have one I start looking for something with travel rewards maybe, something different.

But from all of the companies I just go to their sites and use their drop down which card is best for you, I really don't see a whole lot of cards.

Maybe prestige isn't the correct word, it isn't about ego.

Yet, afuche & galahad15 completely understand the question and the angle that I am trying to approach.

+1 on cards with the lowest APR, wasn't aware of these cards, will definitely look in those

+1 on the QuickSilver Card. Capital One actually upgraded my QuickSilver One card to the one with no 'member fee,'  just a few months ago.

Is "practical" the word you are looking for?

QS is indeed a simple, easy rewards, low fee card, a very good card for even average credit scores.

The thing about the competitive rewards landscape, that allow someone with decent credit to app around, utilize the best features of each card, SD those that aren't providing the best benefits at the moment, use loyalty cards to help round up points related to actual air travel and hotel stays to get to a reward level, and in the long run, try to earn the best rewards and perks. The value in cash saved from that exercise can be rather substantial. The experiences that the free or nearly free travel enables are memories that last a lifetime. The cards themselves are only a tool to try to get there.

Re: Most Prestigious Credit Cards?!

I've had more people mention my Amex Gold rpg than when I had my Amex platinum. Actually I've never received a compliment on my platinum but many people liked the looked of my gold card and had their remarks on it . I think some people think the silver look on the platinum is actually under the gold rank wise lol. There was a member in here before who had a platinum and said someone once said " it's okay you'll get the gold soon". I thought that was hilarious but I can see how the average joe who doesn't know about credit cards would assume that. So if anyone really cares about impressing the Amex prg might give off a flashier look than the plat. However, for me, excluding cards like the black card etc, I'll say Chase CSP is up there in terms of prestige.

Re: Most Prestigious Credit Cards?!

First Premier, Credit One, Total, and Milestone. Nothing say I have too much money and only need 9% of my limit available for purchses like a gold card with a $300 SL. That's how I roll. Don't be hatin'.

Don't worry with prestige. Get the cards you can use, not what looks good and inspires envy. Unless you can get the Black or Palladium. Everything else should be judged on if it suits your needs.

Re: Most Prestigious Credit Cards?!

Well, not looking for envy...themanwhocan nailed down exactly what I was looking for

"At least, I think thats what you mean by Prestigious, basically good cards that are worth obtaining and keeping for as long as the cards aren't nerfed."

And, as motoleo put it, it's just the "same couple of flagship cards. Amex Blue Cash, the Venture, Citi Double Cash"

I think this card that I wasn't aware of, was the BarClay card...which has piqued my interest..and too bad Sallie Mae doesn't issue Credit Cards anymore...

I think in terms of rewards, I think the best I can do is 1% since I primarily shop at Wal-Mart, and for some reason Discover IT doesn't apply at Wal-Mart...so probably safe to assume other cards are the same way..

Re: Most Prestigious Credit Cards?!

Prestige does not come from a card.

Sort out your needs/wants.  Use that to select cards that suit you.  Don't rely on "prestige".  Selecting cards is a very subjective matter.  One card is not best suited to everyone.  I may find the CSP very useful but that doesn't mean that everyone does.  More careful analysis of things like one's spend, how well one can leverage certain rewards programs, etc is required in order to determine which cards to apply for.
