NFCU Convert Story! -- Member for Life!!

NFCU is held highly on these boards and I have to thank you all for making me familiar with NFCU.. here's my NFCU story.

My mother is a DoD Civilian at WPAFB so I qualified through her (I was worried as I got mixed responses about my eligibility since she is not a member herself, but had no issues joining).  Right after joining they frozen my checking/savings for verification the next day (Thursday AM); Thurs evening I proactively e-mailed all verification docs needed (spoke with a CSR to get exact doc needs) and by Saturday AM my accounts were unlocked and good to go!

- On top of this, I was Instantly approved for Flagship Visa at 25K!!; instantly approved for LOC checking protection of 15K.  Will most likely use them for 100% mortgage financing in the next few years.  I have a fair amount of HP INQs on my reports (3-4 per bureau) but still maintaining scores 750-790, had no issues with instant approvals.

- I have converted all of my primary banking from Chase over to NFCU now (even with nearest branch 2 hrs away) because they have far and above been not only the nicest CSRs I've ever worked with over the phone, but the most generous by far in credit limits and kindness to me.  Such a sign of good faith and the fact that they have never laid off an employee in the history of the CU really makes me want to support them as much as possible.

- Setup now consists of NFCU for primary banking, DCU (for shared CU branch banking in my area and my auto loan at 1.24%), Ally (for online savings accounts 1% return), and Chase minimum daily balance in checking to avoid fee and have bank branch services nearby if I ever need a bank for something like a medallion signature guarantee (though I may just look to local CU via shared branching as a DCU member and dump Chase entirely in the next 6 months).

THANK YOU ALL for introducing me to NFCU!!  Definitely plan on being a member for life and supporting this CU!  (And hope one day they open a branch in Columbus, OH!).

Re: NFCU Convert Story! -- Member for Life!!

That's a great story! I hope to have the same success. My husband already has an NFCU account since he's in the Navy. There is nothing in it - he never uses it! He doesn't have a credit card or any credit with them even though his scores are better than mine! LOL...our closest branch is 1 hour away because it's on the base. As soon as our house closes (end of this week, early next), the first thing we are going to do is drive down there with our paycheck stubs, add me to the account and app for car refi and rewards card. Maybe the PLOC as well. But I'm sure they would want us to direct deposit in there. Which would be fine, I would just have to move over BofA to them and use them as our operating or savings acct. I'm so excited to close so we can go down there!

Thanks and I hope all goes well for you as well!!  I am sure the branch in-person experience is even better than my experience via phone.  They didn't do any mention of me moving my direct deposit to them but I felt compelled to give them my business as they're treating me so much more generously than Chase ever did, but I know some of their perks (such as the EasyStart CD w/ 3% APY) only required ~500 direct deposit, so you could split between banks if you weren't ready to go 100% all in with them.
Keep us posted on how it turns out!
