3 of my 4 Amex accounts have been SPs. i only have two HPs on my EX. My BCP was my first with a hard pull. a few months later I got a mailer for the PRG, approved, no hard pull. A couple months after that I tried Delta Gold and got denied. Hard pull didnt hit until I tried a recon. Tried Delta again when they had the 60K bonus and was approved with a soft pull. Finally just last week, I got the SPG with a soft pull. Seems to be the new trend with existing card members.
I got three cards on the same day (EDP, PRG, green) with no HP.
I love Amex, and they apparently love me.
Also, Go Dawgs!

Are you looking to be banned?

@Anonymous wrote:Hey folks, I thought I would share with you that I was approved for last week for an AMEX Hilton card and a week later still have not seen a hard inquiry on my CRs. I saw that there was a soft pull done on September 7th but nothing beyond that. I already have a PRG with them. Do you all think this is a new AMEX policy to only do soft pulls on new accounts for existing customers? Has anyone else had this experience?
I've had a charge card since 2014 with them, and I got the biz Delta and Starwood cards last year - both were a HP. Not sure if it makes a difference with one product vs another, or biz vs personal, but consider yourself lucky to save the hit

Here is what happened to me
In July got a PRG and got a hard pull. A week later I got a BCE and no hard pull. Then last week I got Amex Platinum and got a hard pull. Yesterday I got the SPG and no hard pull. Not like it makes any difference. At my hard pull count additional hard pulls do not affect my score. The 2 new accounts that reported lowered my score by 2 points and then them month changed and I got the 2 points back.

@Anonymous wrote:I have always gotten a HP for every Amex card I get. I believe they will, at times, do SP's for existing card members for new cards, but I've mainly heard that occurring when people are declined. It may show up at a later date or you may be super lucky!
When was the last time that you applied and were approved and received the HP? It did used to be the case that only a SP was done if you were declined but in the last 9-12 months something changed within Amex and now the vast majority of new card approvals for existing members result only in a SP.
I know this is a different product but still Amex but they recently offered me a loan that explicitly stated SP only.

I got the reverse, BCE (first account since Amex sold Costco to Citi) in April was HP, Simply Cash in May another HP, last week BCP was SP.
@Anonymous wrote:Definitely an interesting new development! I wondered why the application process was so easy. Literally all the asked me for was my updated income. I wish they had given me a better starting limit though. The approval was based on my EX score from 35 points ago :-/.
I just applied for the new delta blue amex card today and it was a SP. All they asked was for my income and assets. Then I was approved. I was disapointed in the limit as well.
