New Nordstrom Black card~Icon status😳

The older version of the Nordstrom rewards, now called the Nordy Club, to be considered for their top level 4 you had to spend $10k a year on Nordstrom purchases alone at the store, online, Nordstrom rack, haute look.

Now, the Icon status in the Nordy club, you have to spend $15k a year in store only to maintain Icon status. So that's quite a change.

Some folks were "carried over" in status this year to next year and I was one of them. I'll maintain icon status thru 2019, but I'll need to spend $15k in Nordstrom store purchases next year to maintain that status for 2020, which I won't be able to do. So, at least I can say I was icon status for a year, lol. Some folks that's no problem at all and pocket change, but normal working folks like me won't be able to maintain that.

The icon status and the new black card which is metal btw, have a designated line for cardholders too which is nice.

Shopping at Nordstrom Rack I would consider lower scale than JC Penneys. It is like a third world country down there.  I wonder what percentage of their business is from the Rack I am guessing that is where most of the spending occurs.

Kids clothing is actually pretty reasonable at Nordstrom.  They have Tea Collection which is what I normally buy for my daughter and that is really not bad even at full price.  Really I think I would find it very hard to spend 15k at Nordstrom.  Their watches are all cheap junk.  I bought a $400 dollar pair of boots there once but don't remember ever seeing anything more expensive than that.   It isn't like shopping at Neiman Marcus or Sak's.    Or Macy's that has a lot of housewares and furniture.  I like Nordstrom's cafe though. 

I do find it hilarious seeing the long lines down in the rack section while the rest of the store has next to no one in it.  People think they are getting some sort of deal but anyone with any sense could realize you can't have 20 times as many people down in the rack as the rest of the store and getting the same quality mechandise.  They order sub quality stuff specifically for the rack.

Nordstrom has an entire designer section for shoes, handbags and clothing on par with Neimans and Saks. Certain ones carry Chanel shoes, handbags and ready to wear as well (Topanga and Fashion Valley location in San Diego) to name a few.

I'm not a regular Nordstrom customer, so I could easily be mistaken, but...

1. It looks like the elite benefits only help at the premium stores.

2. The $15k+ spend customers (to reach Icon) and the Nordstrom Rack customers seem like they would be mutually exclusive groups.

Not true, at least by me. My Nordstrom racks sometimes carry high end merchandise. I purchased a 4,000$ luggage piece for 1,800. They sometimes carry designer merchandise.

Nordstrom Rack does carry some higher end stuff for sure. The problem is sorting through the bomb that explodes in there everyday. There is just layer upon layer of products on the floor. I think if they hired one person whose sole job is to walk around all day picking up stuff it would be pretty clean.
