Re: New Walmart Credit Card Rewards Program - April 2016

I use my Walmart card pretty heavy and I have bought a lot of stuff to pick up in store also. This rebate is a start! And their gas is cheap at my store!

Their gas is cheap at my store as well but I'll probably stick to my secured Discover since I get the 5% cashback Smiley Happy

Re: New Walmart Credit Card Rewards Program - April 2016

I don't know how I missed this thread when it was posted. I got excited reading it, then got immediately unexcited when I read that it was only for April. Then I did some mental gymnastics and realized that it doesn't matter at all. Disco Deals are better at Walmart.com, QS and Disco are beating Walmart in store, and I could already get 2% back on gas with BCE in April (unless they are combining the 5 cent discount with the 2% back, then it might be ok). I am happy Walmart is stepping up their game, but it's not quite enough to make me use the card more at this point.

Re: New Walmart Credit Card Rewards Program - April 2016

Last xmas, I had the spend $35 get $15 dollars back Amex deal.  I used it four times via a cash back portal.  I picked up my orders at a couple of different stores.  Here is a list of what I ran into:

1) Website was very slow.  It appeared to be locking up trying to check inventory at the various stores.

2) Add item to my cart. Click on checkout.   Can't checkout because there is no inventory.  Have to start over.  Website is still freezing up.

3) A few days later, website is slow, but usable.  None the less it takes forever to navigate the site.   I ended up having to use a different store for pickup.   It is for cat food I purchase all the time at my primary store.

4) Cashier found my order on the computer.  However, they can't find my order in back.   After about 5 minutes I was able to sneak back and point it out.  They were looking for a bag, not a box.

5) I had picked up an extra item on the way to order pickup.  The cashier didn't know how to use the cash register to check me out.

6) While cashier was trying figure out cash register, she got into a shouting match with person looking for lay away.  Eventually, she finds someone else to hit the key for a credit card purchase.

7) Walk up to order pickup counter.  No one there.  Hit button for assistance.  Wait.  Wait.  Screen goes back to hit button for assistance.  Try again.  End up requesting assistance from door greeter.  He finds someone to help me.

8) My order can't be found on the computer.  The cashier goes to talk to the guy unloading the truck to find my order.  While she is gone,  I sneak back and find my package.  When cashier gets back.  I point out the package.  The order used my nickname on the credit card.  Not my full name.

9) For my last order, I found something with free shipping.  The website behaved much better.  Maybe because the item was avaiable on-line only.  It didn't have to check inventory at a half dozen stores.

Maybe Wall-mart has worked out the kinks by now.  Still it is hard to understand why they would be promoting store pickup so heavily with so many issues.  After my experiences, a card that pays bonus points at wallmart.com is worthless.

You are absolutely right about all of those. I have had the same issue. Once I went to WalMart with a company credit card and a company check. I use the check if possible because it is easier to track in Quickbooks, but the cashier looked at me like he had never seen a check before. And this was back at the pick up in store/old lawaway/photo-ish place. I also have the same issue with the website. Actually finding an item is very difficult, and navigating between stores is impossible. Walmart was my first card in my rebuild. I use it occasionally for gas but that's it. I have wanted to try their financing options but I can't find anything that I want to buy expensive enough to finance, and I get a feeling the cashier will tell me no when I ask them to scan the barcode for financing. They really seem to be uninformed of anything other than 'scan. total. payment.'

Now if I could only figure out how to use a 0% barcode at walmart.com and get an item financed and save 3%,  this would be a win for sure.

Hey, you shop at my Walmart Smiley Wink

Seriously, I have the worst Walmart in existence.  There is another (smaller) Walmart about half an hour away.  I can drive to that Walmart, get what I want, and drive back home before I can get thru the line at the Walmart in town.

I wish I was exaggerating.

I need to learn to read more carefully... I saw "3%" and I immediately thought it was for Wal-Mart purchases, and I was doing the math in my head and thinking about if it would be better to app in-store or online, then I went back and read the statement again... the 3% is only for Wal-Mart.com purchases.  Smiley Sad

I'm not knocking it, though... it's still an improvement.  Smiley Wink

The 3% statement credit for Wal-Mart.com might be worth considering, but when I order online I usually use Amazon - they have the checkout experience down to an art.  Also, I think there's usually a 'standing' Discover deal for Wal-Mart.com as well, which makes the Walmart Credit Card offer redundant if you have Discover.

Again, though, I don't want to sound negative... this is definitely a move in the right direction, and sometimes you have to crawl before you can walk.  Smiley Very Happy

That's funny.Smiley Very Happy  I would need a bigger rewards just to go into their store.  I find it so frustrating to make a purchase.  On-line purchases are so easy.
