Had an interesting chat with Chase tonight about a recurring charge.
I lost my wallet a while back and got new Chase cards. I have a credit monitoring plan with Equifax and to my surprise, after I got new card numbers, the recurring charge still went through. For a moment I thought maybe Chase didn't cancel the lost cards so I called them up and asked why the charge went through. She confirmed the card was cancelled and the recurring charge was able to go through because, "when you enter into an agreement with a merchant to bill you automatically they can call Visa/MC and get your new account information. they don't get it from Chase." I thought this sounded wacky but I didn't push it. I'm used to merchant needing to get the new card info directly from me anytime I change card #s.
Anyone have experience with this?
Yep, with Cap-1 its called "Continued Continuity". Was done with a compromised card I had with them, never called the merchant the charges just continued on till I cancelled.
I had a small recurring charge on my wife's PenFed Visa. The card was compromised and they sent a new card with a new number. The charge stopped and never occurred again, which was fine with me because I was planning to cancel the subscription anyway. This was about six months ago.
