Re: Sam's Club MC Vs. Chase AARP

I would really like to know if anyone knows if you cancel your membership can you still use the card / earn rewards? Anyone that can confirm this, I would highly appreciate it Smiley Happy

The terms are pretty specific about this:

" Cash back rewards are forfeited if the Sam’s Club MasterCard account is not in good standing, if the Sam’s Club Membership terminates or lapses, or if the Cash Back earned in a calendar year is less than $5.00. Cash back checks will be made payable to Sam’s Club and may be cashed only at a Sam’s Club location."

So while it's possible some have gotten around it, Sam's is definitely covering their behind in terms of taking away your rewards if you cancel membership. If you are really interested in the card, run the numbers for your spend and determine the worth based on paying the membership fee. Again, an extra 1% on dining and travel may or may not be worth opening a new account.

Thanks for your response! I'm currently a costco member and would possibly look into opening an account if I find their products comparable. I'm just trying to invest less with Chase as I'm not too pleased right now with them so regardless I plan on closing some of my cards with them, i'm just trying to see if  I do close accounts what options I do have to fill the void in my credit card offerings.

Smiley Sad that's not the case at all. I actually did try looking it up / searching it and didn't find anything definite about this. That's why I asked on here..

Sam's Club MasterCard sounds better than AARP,but if you dig in a little bit more, the AARP win: Sam's Club has minimum $45 annual fee, no sign up bonus; The AARP card has $200 sign up bonus with no fee. Sam's Club MasterCard might be for whom shopping at Sam's Club a lot, but for these who charge the card less than $10k a year, AARP is your choice.

Re: Sam's Club MC Vs. Chase AARP

keep in mind that the sign up bonus of $200 is cool, but that doesn't really put it ahead per se. they're both good in their own way

Re: Sam's Club MC Vs. Chase AARP

and don't look at the $45 as an AF. that's the cost of membership for SAMs club so you get a benefit in that in itself
