Re: Synchrony just stinks

This is what happens on most posts being angry at a lenders action. Starts off by saying they are upset for so and so action by lender but never really saying the info needed to ascertain why action was taken until many post later . Eventually the reason comes out. In this case going 2 years without using a credit card, thats plenty of reason to close an account. Not Synchrony's fault. They get a bad rep here but its not always their fault . We as card holders also have to take responsiblity for how we use our cards . At least it is a lesson learned the hard way.

Sorry op, if your scores are better now, you might be able to reapp and get the MC.Just a thought.

Exactly right.  Every time someone posts a creditor taking AA in some form, it’s the same pattern here.

Let’s blame Synchrony and call them ‘names’ because they close an account dormant for 23 months.  Ridiculous.  We open cards and expect creditors to never close our accounts even if we never use the available credit.  When they do, it’s time to bash them (I am not just referring to the OP as this happens quite often).

On the other hand we have multiple threads ongoing at any time about closing cards, sometimes multiple ones at once.  Yet no one says to those posters ‘You’re being horrible to the creditor.  You took their bonus and closed the card and were an unprofitable customer to them.  How dare you.’

Makes me wonder if banks don’thave their own forums where they get to complain about us when we close their cards.

Re: Synchrony just stinks

When people don't use all their credit cards regularly, they probably have too many credit cards.  I still contend that nobody "needs" to have a credit card count in the double digits.  Some like to have as many cards as possible, with credit limits as high as possible, but that's a hobby, not a need.  And a true hobbyist will do what it takes to keep all those cards active.

Sock Drawer: PenFed Promise • NFCU cashRewards • Chase Sapphire Preferred • Chase Freedom Unlimited • United Explorer • UNFCU Azure

And that's often a better alternative anyway. A store card forces one to go to a particular store to keep it active — and possibly buy something that's unneeded. A co-branded MC/Visa/AMEX that offers perks for that store and can be used practically anywhere to show activity doesn't force one to visit a particular store and possibly buy something he wouldn't be buying anyway.

Entirely agree. I was actually looking up a few minutes ago the subject of PC'ing from the Walmart store card to the Walmart MC. Turns out it's invitation-only so I'll have to wait at least a few months more (the information seems to be that, depending on your account history and other factors, you could get the invitation when the store card has aged to at least 1 year, though 2 years seems to be more usual depending on others' experience).

Yeah, I can't hate on 'em, they just gave me some CLI love by jumping me from $3.3K up to $10K just by clicking the button.  Smiley Very Happy

I agree. I was also upset about it when it happened to me and I get caught up in the bashing sometimes myself. But another on this forum reminded me that it was because of my actions (and can also be lack of actions) that caused AA. After that I realized that I had those cards for about 2 years and they did help raise my scoresFor that I was thankful and also learned an important lesson about how I need to be in charge of my credit. There are lenders that just don't like my profile and there are lenders that I do not like. However just like any other financial portfolio, you must diversify it and go with what makes the most sense for you. As per my previous post above I had many that I did use and then did not use for a while. I am now glad that they did some of the aa or I would have aged them longer there fore causing more damage to my score down the road. I now only go after cards that I know I will use and at the same time provide the best value for my money. So I totally understand the anger and frustration, but just best to move forward. If Synch doesn't want you business focus on the ones that do.
