Just curious. What do you guys say when your banks ask you the reason for a CLI? This only occurs to me when I'm on the phone with them.
Most of my CC have rewards tied to them, so I tell the companies that I am looking to put the majority of my daily expenses on their CCs to take advantage of the rewards. I say that the only way to do this is if I have a CLI.
Seems to work so far.
Never have been asked, except by discover and it was online. I picked future large purchase from the drop down menu.
I don't. My CLI requests are done online.
I alway state that I need a increase to help with my utilization
I use the BT offers they send as reason to raise the limit and I am concerned with a high util reporting on the card.
I read someone saying on here that when asked what he/she needed the cli for, they replied "no particular reason. I just want to continue to build my relationship with you." I thought that was pretty clever.
I'm not really sure the reason for the CLI is a significant factor in the lender decision. Where an issue does arise is if you are requesting a CLI on a card and you don't fully utilize your current credit limit on that card. In that situation I can see a lender asking.
Most of my requests are online. When I do call, I usually just say I'm looking for a higher limit in order to make [insert card name here] my everyday card and I would really like to further my relationship with [insert lender name here].
