Will a tax lien deny a card aplication?

I have payed off 90+% of my old debts and have just a couple more
to go, I have 1 small tax lien still to pay and was wondering if that would deny
a CC aplication.
I still show a few CC in collections and derogatory but I have paid them and
are disputing those..
My scores have risen from the low 500's to TU 585 EQ 608 EX 595
I need to start building new credit and have disputes updating weekly
so I wonder wether applying now or waiting a few more weeks would be
better...?

Yes.. I would wait if you think the lien will be removed soon.

Re: Will a tax lien deny a card aplication?

It depends on how old the tax lien is... I have one but it's about 5 years old and WAMU just sent me a CC with a 2500 CL

Re: Will a tax lien deny a card aplication?

I have a tax lien that was paid last year and not released until March.  I found out later that the state (KY) does not report releases, so I had to dispute it to have it updated.  Anyways, it still reports but with a 0 balance.  I am sending a GW letter but does anyone know anything else I can do to have this removed completely?  I always thought that a lien would just be on there until it was paid...I guess that's not the case?

Re: Will a tax lien deny a card aplication?

I had an old paid tax lien on my report which I disputed and had removed last month. The only credit card I was denied for when the lien was still on my report was a Citi Business Card. Citi gave me a PP card but they won't issue a business card with a tax lien on the report. I am going to apply again for the Citi Business now that the lien is off my report.

Details? How did you dispute it? Amazing!

Re: Will a tax lien deny a card aplication?

The tax lien was paid but TU was reporting it as still owed. I thought when I disputed that TU would just mark it as paid. So I disputed and waited 30 days and nothing happened. So I called TU and told them I had disputed once already and the lady at TU said she would put in another dispute. After about 3 weeks TU removed the lien completely from my report. I had already called the court and ask what I could do about this. They told me TU would have to send in an auditor to verify this lien was paid because the court won't give this info by phone or email. As far as I know TU never sent an auditor in.

Re: Will a tax lien deny a card aplication?

I thought about disputing the tax lien again to try to get it taken off, but my loan officer (we're buying a new home soon) said that it would risk making it active again.  What does that mean?  He suggested contacting the courthouse and asking for them to remove it.  Any suggestions?

Wow, did you luck out! I assume the lien is reporting on your other two reports? If so, has your TU scored increased?
