Anyone apply for an AMEX card and asked for a CLI?

Hello, I am just wondering what are some of you all's experience asking for a CLI with AMEX?  I just got approved for a $2000 CL and wonder what type of CLI I may expect.  Thanks in advance.

Like Tuscani said, you might expect anything up to and including a doubling or tripling of the CL initially extended.

Until you approach total AMEX CL of 1/3 your stated income, you don't have to sweat the prospect of an FR.

I got approved for $3600 under AMEX blue. I read that lots of people got CLIs right after they applied so, after having the card around 3 weeks I decided to add $900 more. Felt like $4500 was comfortable for now. I think I should have requested more though.

Btw, what are some good tips for when doing this? I far prefer the systems that you just request an increase and are given as much as possible. I hate having to fill out income, amount I plan to spend, etc. What are some general rules of thumb when it comes to increases.

There is no magical trick.. simply ask " Do I qualify or can I get a higher CL".

I had an AMEX from Costco with a CL of $5000, then in the past I was showing HIGH debt so they lowered it to $3800!!! Once I was back in control I converted it to an AMEX Blue with the same CL. After 30 days I would go online and request an Increse. They DONT pull your report, they only look at your summary and Amex History and whatver you say you make.

My goal was not to get MORE and MORE CL but to help my overall UTIL by getting a higher CL. So I tried and month after month I was approved on the spot. I Started small with $2000 at a time. Well the last time I requested $5000 more and got it.

So now I have a CL of $14K but I wont ask for more. After reading that more is NOT always good due to potential available credit use I will keep it as is.

The nice thing about AMEX is you can do it all online, and they DONT pull your report so there is no FICO hit. But - Im sure if you request too much it will come back and say they need to check your report but at that time I would let it be and forget it.

The only thing about online is its VERY hard to find the CLI Link. I think its under OTHER ACCOUNT Services once you are logged in.

See the discussions on this thread.  I called to ask for a CLI, refused to provide HHI info, and got the amount of the CLI doubled.  It was a bit short of the amount I requested, but they were actually encouraging me to apply again for an increase.  I said, hey, no thanks, it's not like I'm going to buy a car today, LOL.

I guess I'm the exception. I asked for a CLI at activation and got spanked. I'll try again in a few months.

how much did you ask for? how much is the original credit limit they gave you and with what scores ? what information did they request from you?

I applied for Amex Blue Cash in March, 2006 and received a CL of $5,300.00.  I clicked on the  CL increase button after a couple of months and received $5,300.00 more!  In October, 2006, I applied for a Blue Card and received a CL of $10,000!!  I clicked on the CL button a couple of months later and received $5K more.  I haven't touched that  button since!

I have been needing a card with atleast a $5K credit limit to bring three of my credit cards down  to under 50% and my total util down also; so yesterday I applied for the Amex Clear online through their website and received an approval in 60 seconds of $10K!!  Thanks Mike Toreno for that suggestion.  It seems Amex Clear is giving out a lot of luv these days by approving a lot of people!
