CA admits re-aging - need help for response

Need help writing letter to a CA that admits reaging a medical collection. Date Reported on my CR shows as June 2007, instead of July 2004 - the actual DOFD. CA says this is because the hospital held off on sending it to CA for three years, and that I should be "glad" they held off.

Now that I found the forum, I know this is not true, and no matter when the CA receives it, they still must report the original delinquency, not just when they got it. I need help writing a letter that outlines this and states the correct section/code for them.

It's already PIF, I just want it reported correctly so it shows as 4yrs old instead of 1!!!

Hey Ivy. The report date and DOFD are two different things. This does not appear to be re-aging. If you get your "free" credit report, it will show the DOFD and estimated date of removal (EX & TU) or you can call the CRA.

What date field is showing wrong?

If DOFD is wrong, then you can dispute with CRA.

If it is date open field, they are allowed to report the date open as the date they received the debt. Nothing is affected by this field.

If it is date reported field, that is just when they first reported, and I don't think they control that date anyhow, I think the CRA does.

Re: CA admits re-aging - need help for response

I think I am clear on this one, and I think it actually has been re-aged.
The DOS was June 2004. DOFD was 180 days from that date.

On my report through myFICO, if you go under your collections, it lists "date assigned" "date reported" "date last active" "date closed."

So it's showing as a one-year-old collection.

My other collections, in comparison, show the "date assigned" as a date usually 1-6 months after the actual date of service (DOS). As an example, I was also in the hospital in Mar 2004, just three months earlier, at another hospital. That "date assigned" is listed as August 2004 -- just five months later.

Re: CA admits re-aging - need help for response

With medical, DOFD is date of service.

Date reported is not DOFD and is not what the CRA go by when dropping off.

It is showing as a one year collection b/c that is when they first reported to the CRA on the account, doesn't mean that is when the account was opened or went deliquent.

Does it tell when the account will be removed?

You can get your free report and it will say or you can call the CRA and ask for DOFD or FCRA compliance date or ask for drop-off date. Some representatives don't know what DOFD is or FCRA compliance date and you have to just ask when it will be removed.

It doesn't say when it will be removed. Which credit report lists that section? I'm curious to find out, I'll pull my free reports if one of them lists that.

thanks for breaking it down kindergarten-style for me Smiley Happy

Any of them should show it if I remember correctly.

Re: CA admits re-aging - need help for response

I'm still concerned this account isn't in the clear. When I looked at my score calculator, one of the major detractors is that I HAVE A RECENT COLLECTION WITHIN THE PAST YEAR. Guess what? this accoutn is the ONLY account with any reference to 2007 or even 2005/2006 in it.

I am nearly positive this is the only account that can possibly be referenced as being "within the past year." So how do I go about correcting the DOFD so it will properly report as being 4+ years old? Send a DV letter??? Or is there a letter specific to correcting DOFD?

Re: CA admits re-aging - need help for response

It will be counted as "within the last year" because that is when it was reported. Therefore to FICO it was within the last year.

Have you pulled your free reports or called the CRA and asked what removal date or DOFD is?

Are you using an online service to get your reports or have a hard copy? Which report?
