The rumor has been around the internet for weeks, but the latest Edward Snowden documents revealed in the Guardian and the New York Times have confirmed it. The NSA and its British counterpart have broken, or are well on their way to breaking, the encryption the entire internet relies on.
We're talking about the encryption that used to protect our banking records, our medical records, and all those online credit card applications and accounts most of us use every day. Also the information that used to protect our personal information here on this forum.
I put this under General Credit Topics instead of SmorgasBoard because this is HUGE or potentially huge for any financial company and anybody anywhere who uses credit cards or online banking.
Even if you're not worried about the government snooping into your data, the backdoors the NSA has gotten companies to provide for it will eventually be exploited by other criminals, too.
I wondered what anybody thinks about this, particularly anybody who knows a lot about computer tech.
