Transunion is using overseas CS?

Called Transunion today to dispute something on my report and got an overseas CS agent. He had no clue (10 minute talking to him) and he was telling me I couldn't dispute the item of how something was reporting. The TL had been reported one way for 18 months and suddenly changed making a negative impact on my credit score. I hung up called back and got a female overseas CS agent. It took 5 minutes of explaining to get a simple dispute on a TL done with her. Neither had an idea of what they were doing. I had to wear down the 2nd agent to get a simple dispute done.

This is getting ridiculous with foreign CS agents who have no clue. It's bad enough that it is impossible to get a US(native english speaker) for your bank, CC, or computer service(Dell or Gateway) now we can't even get people for sensitive credit info.

I tried with TU, now I'm going back to my old policy that I have used for CC, banks, Dell etc...if the person sounds like they are not a native english peaker I hang up and keep calling till I get a native english speaker or call a different time of the day when they aren't routing calls overseas or just keep trying all their different CS numbers(different call centers sometimes) till I get a native english  speaker.

Re: Transunion is using overseas CS?

I feel your pain. I did remove the references to a specific country and replaced them with "overseas," because in the end, that's the issue. Banks, credit bureaus, and other businesses are farming out CS to the cheapest bidder, and we're left banging our phones on the desk.

I've had great overseas CSR's and I've had abysmal ones. Same for US-based.

I'd suggest that you send a letter (good luck calling) to TransUnion with your complaint. Not that it will change anything they do, of course, but all you can do is all you can do.

--And please, people, don't clutter up my poor pm box with all the rants about "political correctness." It's not PC; it's common courtesy. We have members here from many countries, and we like for them to feel welcome, too. Until you've lived as a minority member in another culture, you might not realize quite what it's like. Again, we just ask that you substitute the words "overseas" or "off-shore" for "Lower Slobbovian" or "Elbonian" or your ethnicity/ nationality of choice. (Let's see how many people are old enough to know what Lower Slobbovia was! Smiley Wink )

Actually, I've had good and bad experiences with CSRs from various countries.  More important than where they are located is how they are selected, paid, trained, etc., whether they have enough people, whether they give their CSRs the authority to make things happen, how readily they escalate when that is appropriate, etc.  I have spoken with people whose accents sound like Nebraska but they didn't have a clue and I have spoken with people whose accent sound offshore but they knew what they were talking about.  A major factor is how much TIME the CSRs get to spend on training.

TU 791 02/11/2013, EQ 800 1/29/2011 , EX Plus FAKO 812, EX Vantage Score 955 3/19/2010 wife's EQ 9/23/2009 803
EX always was my highest when we could pull all three

I had issues with Transunion also.  I finally got to the point that as soon as they answered, I would insist on speaking to their supervisor.  As soon as the supervisor got on the line, I would insist to speak to their supervisor.  Level 3 supervisor is US based, has the authoritity and knowledge to handle the issue.  Takes about 10 minutes or more to get through that.

Also, I had to be insistent on the "I need to speak to a supervisor" and not let them tell me that they could help me.

With that said, I have had  BETTER luck with the EQ overseas CSR's than the US based.  It seems that if you call at late or weekend hours (EQ offers 24/7 services), that you get the overseas.  And they have been faster and more agile in assisting me.  Even with occassional accent issues (took a couple tries to get each other completely understood) they were extremely helpful and got my issue resolved.  The opposite happened with the USA based CSR.

Re: Transunion is using overseas CS?

I only called TU once and that was a couple of years ago. I got a very nice young man from India who couldn't be more helpful. Anything else sir? Equifax should hire this guy.
