Here's my advise on AMEX CLI, because i just went through it twice--once I was granted, once I was denied. It seems in most states in the USA, Amex uses Experian hard pulls to approve applications and uses Transunion soft pulls to approve CLI. So before you apply for an AMEX CLI, make sure you TU score did not get worse since you accepted the card. In general, I would wait for my score to become all higher before applying for CLI again.

My GF requested last night an increase from a $1,000 to $24,900 and got the 7-10 days letter response. We have prepared the fax, put some paper in the printer and got the pen out.....we are waiting on FR......I'll update you on status.

Do I need to be the one to request a cli increase with AmEx or do they ever reveiw your account and increase the limit themselves?  Has anyone ever received a cli without asking for one?

Re: When is it safe to asak for CLI with Amex??(or is it ever safe)

They will periodically review your account and automatically grant CLI's.  I opened my Blue acct in Oct 2005...didn't have the best scores at the time but they have me 2k.  I called about a month later and asked for 4k and they gave it to me.  Earlier this year...probably around May they automatically up'd it to 8k without a request from me then once again in July they up'd it to 12k.  I figured maybe once every 6 months or so they would review automatically and grant based on that, but I can't figure out why they would up it twice in 2 months.  Believe me, i'm not complaining, it's awfully nice of them.  But now it makes me want to have more....not because I need it, but because it feels good to know that I once had a credit card with a $300 limit and now I have numerous cards with over 10k limits.  I think 15-17k would be a nice credit limit to have....but so far (knock on wood) i haven't had to deal with the F/R so I don't want to press my luck and trigger something if I dont have to, or need to for that matter.

Maybe one of the "experts" can chime in here as to whether or not there is a schedule as to how often they perform CLI's.
