Cash back debit card accounts are a dime a dozen. Almost all the ones I have heard of fall under the Kasasa brand and have a lot of hoops to jump through to get the cash back. For example, you may have make 12-15 signature debit cards transactions and have a $500 or direct deposit to qualify for the cash back.

Affinity Federal Credit Union is unique. It has cash back debit card account with no strings. It does not appear to branded or affiliated with the Kasasa brand. You get 1% cash back capped on $1000 spend for a maximum $10 cash back per month. No minimum debit card transactions and no direct deposit requirements.

Are any other cash back debit card accounts, like the one at Affinity Federal Credit Union, with no strings attached. Preferably anyone could join?

EDIT: Here is one : https://www.quontic.com/banking/checking/cash-rewards-checking/

Edit 2: Never mind Quontic bank. They have scathing reviews at depositaccounts.com

@Bill77

Unfortunately, I have read Discover cash back debit card does not work with PayPal bill pay like Affinity does. That is a must have for me.

Hello @kremonis

Joining the bandwagon,

Can you please share which rewards checking account you've used or heard of that work successfully with PayPal Bill Pay?

Does Quontic Debit Card work?

Thank you in advance!

@JDC

The only one I can personally vouch Affinity FCU cash back debit card. It is capped at $1000/month but you can get multiple cards if you are willing to take a new Chex inquiry for each new card. I cannot comment on Quontic cause I never had the card.

There could be a bunch that work with Paypal bill pay, but they are likely capped with at a few hundred dollars per month or make you do debit purchases. Some of them specifically exclude Paypal bill pay.

Amex checking debit card pays rewards points. No hoops. Also pays 1% interest. I don't know anything I can pay with it that I can't pay with a credit card.

@FicoMike0

Can Amex rewards point be transformed into cash? Do you truly mean "1% interest" or "1% cash back" on purchases with this debit card? You have verified it works PayPal bill pay and get the 1%.

@kremonis,

@Wu-Credit  mentioned that Affinity FCU has now restricted new memberships to only residents of CT, NY, or immediate family members. I guess I'm out of luck here.

I think if you had a referral, you can get around the geofence, they've become very chex sensitive though, if you have any lengthy inquiry history, I imagine you'll be denied now.

@GZG , In the last month I've opened a us bank checking and savings account.

Total accounts opened in the last 12 months.

Checking: 3

Savings: 5

Credit cards: 4

Should I wait?

how many chex inquires, only certain banks/cu's report chex inquires, US bank for example doesn't, the vast majority of credit cards don't, you can get your chex report from here:

https://www.chexsystems.com/

if this is an important account for you, I'd be 90 days removed from any chex inquires at least

@kremonis  I've never found out the cash value of amex points. They seem to be prized by those that pay $695 for the plat. Card. I'll post if I find out. I don't have many. Don't use The card much.

The amex checking pays 1% interest monthly, on the average balance as an account credit.

I did not know that AffinityFCU is now geofenced. When opened my first account there anyone could join.

Re: Cash back debit card accounts without strings attached?

@ jdc  you really have to look at number is inquiries at each bureau. The three credit bureaus are well known. Opening a deposit account seldom involve them. Chex and early warning systems are the primary bureau's for deposit accounts. Read all about it here

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/bank-account-reference-pages/

The big banks tend to be ews. They aren't very inquiry sensative. Some of the Chex banks are. You can order a report from each. The real purpose of these bureaus is to nail you for actual baddies, bouncing checks, closing accounts with negative balance...
