What makes them special (Cards, Car loans, Banking)
Im already a member of Alliant, PenFed, and NFCU. My BECU app is pending as well and I plan to join DCU.
What good ones am I missing? I'm in PA and I'm a first responder if those matter for membership.
I really like BECU for the following:
1). Decent no strings attached interest rate on first $500 in checking and savings accounts. I keep $1,000 in there and withdraw extra interest every month to my Ally bank account.
2). Completely free overdraft from PLOC to checking. Again, if I am out of money, on my debit card, I can overdraft for completely free. Their PLOC is 10.00% APR so it's not bad.
3). No foregin transaction fee on their debit card. They offer foreign ATM refund up to $6.00. Again, it is nice to carry BECU debit card as a back up when traveling whether internationally or within United States just for that.
4). And lastly few more little things. Great mobile support. So I can easilly access everything I need either from a mobile app or from iOS safari. Always great customer service. And lastly 1 buisness day money transfer. Which is huge for something like me who is not very patient.
I keep thinking about opening DCU just for the 6% savings. But honestly I don't find that credit union worth using for anything else.
I had PenFed. I was not happy with them.
I had LMCU. I closed them because of fees.
I had First Tech. They were decent but they didn't offer anything special
I had PSECU. I just closed them to trim down and again they didn't offer anything special.
I had SDFCU. I closed them right after opening account with them due to their lack of professionalism.
I had FKFCU. I closed them after 1.5 years because they didn't offer anyting special for me.
I had Alliant. I closed them after they handled my money in unprofessional way.
Thanks Green, I have PenFed but don't use them.
Im going to go with DCU because they actually have better auto rates than BECU and NFCU and the 6% is nice.
Im also considering Redstone for the APY. PSECU also has some decent rates on loans.
I just got into BECU last week and am looking forward to working with them as I've heard so many fantastic things about them.
I heard a couple of comments here about DCU customer service being on the poor side. Are you concerned at all about that?
I am, in fact I was looking at other options for what I intended to use them for but the next best choice would be Redstone who isn't accepting online membership apps currently. I may try calling them and getting around it that way but I'm not sure. AOD was suggested as was Langley. I have some research and calls to make but it may a gamble with DCU anyway.
Redstone also just lowered their interest rate on savings from 5% to 2.5%. In terms of auto rates I think DCU gives one of the best rates. Personally I am thinking about joining DCU just for the 6.17% interest rate. That comes out $5.00 per month of extra rewards. Of course I am at 42% tax bracket and we are at 2% inflation, which means the actual amount is $2.00.
This matches my thought process as well. Get a high APY with a good auto rate and leave it at that. Neither requires much customer service.
ETA: Then again who knows what will be going on before you can buy a car here. Redstone may be back to it a d everyone's rates could change.

Redstone FCU 5.09% APY on savings up to $2,500savings account similar to DCU???????
Well @AllZero and @Gmood1 , It looks like Redstone wants to play now!
Congratulations on your conditional membership!
RE: Redstone FCU
So I had originally applied on Sat, Mar 14 at 1:16 PM per My first email from them.
I have been on the phone twice with them today. They are going to honor My application for membership.
Some of the nicest people I have spoke to at a CU in a while.
They asked for a few documents. I uploaded and sent. The Lady said "You are fast"
She said everything looked great!
I can confirm from two separate CSR's that they are running on a skeleton crew,
and they are NOT taking any new application's at this time.
Very happy with the overall experience.
@M_Smart007. I'm glad to read everything went smoothly. Congratulations!
@AnimatorProcrastinator wrote:Baxter Credit Union is definitely my favorite. Their checking account has 3% APY with requirements of $500 deposit a month (any deposit, doesnt have to be DD), and 15 "transactions" a month that I satisfy without even noticing. They have a 'rainy day' savings account that used to be 2.5% up to $25,000 but got cut down to 2% because of the fed rate cuts. I really have never encountered any problems with BCU, and whenever I have needed something, their customer service is absolutely phenomenal. It seems like I never have to wait on hold to talk to somebody unlike other CUs that always have around a 20-30 wait (cough DCU cough). There's never been any fuss when applying for their products, i've never really had to provide any docs. I get unlimited ATM rebates that i've tested and gotten $50 in rebates in a single month. Oh and their DD is two days early which is a plus. Then they gave me a $14,000 limit when my highest limit at the time was I think $3,500. Of course NFCU is amazing for giving me $25k after 3 months of membership, but I am almost more impressed with BCU's somewhat small asset size trusting me with $14k. I have yet to find another CU that matches all the benefits that I get with Baxter.

BCU gave me 15K right out of the gate, all Iasked for. They also assigned me a personal banker, sent me a welcome video with said banker
in it, Told me he wanted BCU to be my "Everything" bank.I'm more of a "I had fun last night let's keep it loose" type of guy, so I sock drawered the card. Great CU good customer service, but I'm not a one CU guy

If I'm not mistaken, DCU's 6% interest rate is just on the first $1000 in savings. That comes out to $60 year, or $45 a year above what you could get from some of the better savings accounts at other credit unions.

Which credit unions are easy to get credit cards? Thank you and be safe.
There are plenty of threads regarding CUs, you really need to utilize the "search feature"..................................... If you have a specific CU in mind that's one thing, but just in general you can find lots of info with a quick search.
