I've had to retrain myself to use a debit card the last couple of months. At least for the first 12 or 13 general transactions of the month. My CU just deposited nearly $84 in my checking account from using my debit card 12 or more times in a month. No CC I have generates me that on rewards spending as little as $40 or $50 a month.
As long as they're giving money away. I'll keep using it. Lol
I've learned to blend occasional Debit Card use into and around most of my routine credit purchases kind of to add to the mix of things..
I cringe when I think of the endless rewards points I've left on the table by swiping my debit card. Between the FU and CSP, I'll probably only use my debit card at the ATM from now on and that should be pretty rare.
What's a debit card?
Seriouslly though I use it once in a blue moon for a little cash. Otherwise it sees no action.
I do.. I use my debit for smaller purchases and use my CCs on larger purchases where I can earn the most points. Since I have a sizeable savings and no debt, I don't have a problem with using either but I try to limit my cc use. It's so easy to swipe a CC knowing you can pay it off later then all your debt adds up.
I use mine to get cash out of the ATM and to buy gas because where I purchase gas you get a .10/gal discount for debit or cash.

That's a smart strategy while gas is cheap. But once gas goes back up over $2.00/gal, on a CC that gives 5% on gas you'd be earning more than .10/gal, thus making it more advantageous to use a credit card, even at the higher price, because your net price per gallon would end up cheaper.
Chris.
I don't use my debit card for really anything other than ATM withdrawals but I do carry it. There are a small, few places where you have to pay with debit and/or cash and I wouldn't want to have to take a cash advance. So although in real life I almost never need it, there's something about wanting to have access to my "own" money without doing a cash advance, etc. Otherwise, there's no reason to spend on debit.
Although to us it sounds foolish for people to use debit, some people just cannot control spending and are probably better off not spending money they don't actually have.
