Asset Acceptance LLC-- Help please!?

I just revieved a letter in the mail from Asset Acceptance LLC, stating they bought a collection account from Bank of America.  Also, the amount owed is a lot higher than the original amount that I ever owed on this account. However, this debt was paid in a settlement almost 3 years ago, through another credit agency and I have recieved a letter from BofA stating that there is no longer a debt owed to them and the account has been charged off.  I have been dealing with this "debt" for close to 3 years now, it keeps bouncing from creditor to creditor, and now it has landed in Asset Acceptance hands. How do I keep them from trying to collect this debt that I do not owe?

Thanks!

Is Asset on your reports???...if so dispute it as NOT MINE...if not...send them a DV letter...along with the receipt...from the previous settlement...

Re: Asset Acceptance LLC-- Help please!?

It sounds like the remaining balance from the settlement has been sold off-

BofA is out of the picture.

Do you have the settlement paperwork?

Re: Asset Acceptance LLC-- Help please!?

I have been dealing with Asset Acceptance for a couple of years myself. DV them and it should be removed, I actually was using a Credit Repair company before I found this website. I still get phone calls from them about once a month but the collection is not on any of my CR.

BTW, someone in my family opened up the account in my name, but I was not aasociated with the account in any way.

Re: Asset Acceptance LLC-- Help please!?

I'm sorry, but what is a DV letter?  The only proof of the settlement payoff that I have is the letter from BofA, and a reciept of the debit from the account used to pay the debt.  I've been dealing with this for a while, actually.  I actually noticed a few years after the fact that the company that i made the settlement payment with neglected to close out my account and I had to call them and get them to close it.  When i called they confirmed the payment and told me I did not owe anything.  The amount requested by AALLC is the whole original amount of the debt plus some extra $$.  I haven't called them yet because I want to be well informed so they don't try to dupe me.  As far as i'm concerned, I shouldn't owe anything to anyone.

Re: Asset Acceptance LLC-- Help please!?

I just checked my experian report and the only thing that shows is the BofA account.  It says status "closed" but then under comments it says it's been transferred to another company.  I'm so confused!  AALLC is not listed on the report anywhere though.  I'm confused how I am still getting "Key Dorrogatories" all the way up through last month if I settled this 3 years ago.

Re: Asset Acceptance LLC-- Help please!?

This company called me last fall, about a credit card debt from 1996 that was not even mine. I didn't even have any credit cards ever until 1999 and the company this card was with was not any I had ever done business with. I sent a DV letter, and they never called again or valildate the debt, however they did send me two more letters before their 30 days was up to verify. Never hit my credit reports though. The original credit card company had no record of me either.
