I had an unpaid debt with Sprint that went into collections in 2019. I finally decided to begin getting the negative accounts off my credit report as I am hoping to buy a home soon and look better for credit cards/loans on the business side. I seen alot of people speaking of contacting the collection agency and sending a debt validation letter or pay for delete letter, but i have seen some success stories on this forum where if you were to call the original creditor it will be done faster and not much trouble.
Today, I made the call to the OC and spoke with a woman for about 1.5 hrs. I ended up paying the balance in full ($2063) and made sure I heard her say that once I pay this debt in full it will be removed from my credit. She said yes. I recorded her on a record line as well... a receipt of the transaction was suppose to be emailed but it never came. she even called me back hours later to make sure i got it but for some reason its not coming.
I also went on their live chat online to get it in writing that I spoke with someone, gave my account number, confirmation number of the call and the supervisor said
"We checked with the collections team. The request has been submitted from our end to remove your name and to update your credit. You will be notified by the collections team directly within 48-72 hours at your registered email address."
I also asked AGAIN... "The collection will be completely removed, correct?" He said yes!
This process with going to the OC seems alot easier than sending letters to the CA. I will update once I receive the email and/or see it taken off my credit report.
In many cases this is not possible--once the OC sells a debt account to a debt buyer, the OC can no longer help you in this way. As long as they still own the account, they can. Even then, some of them will tell you that you must now deal with their debt collector. Really glad your situation worked out!! Give it a little time and you should see the results.
Welcome @msmonet
Did the account on your report show a balance with Sprint? (T-Mobile) If so. They've been good with PFD in most cases. Let us know how it went and when its deleted please. Tx.
I'm optimistic the collection will be deleted.
Should I have asked if they sold the account to the CA or they would let me know right from the beginning of the conversation? I'm new to all of this. Sorry if this is a silly question.
On my experian and equifax report it states:
Convergent Sourcing
Original creditor - Sprint
Date open - 8/2019
The balance and when the balance was last updated which was 2/25/2023.
Also, that it is a collection with seriously past due date what was assigned to collection agency, attorney or credits grantors internal collection department.
@msmonetLook on your reports and see if Sprint/T-Mobile has a balance. If so the CA was collecting on their behalf. Not the real owners of the debt.
Did you ever get this deleted? I called and did the same and it's still on my CR. I emailed Sprint with the chat transcript per another thread I saw and the lady said that I would need to ask convergent to delete it (though Sprint said that they would).
The reported the collection as paid and closed, but they did not remove the account. I will be giving them a call back to see why shortly. I did save the chat transcript for proof that they said it would be deleted.
I know sprint was bought by TMOBILE. who did you contact and pay I owe spring and want to pay and have them delete the collection but not sure what number to contact
