Completely fair, if they say "close the account to get the deposit back, computer says no" once I cash in the 2019 Cashback Match, I'll just do it. Trade a secured account that's a year old for an unsecured one that'll be a month old that has 10x the credit limit, especially when I don't plan on any more cards for almost a year anyway. so I can be ready to hit Chase when 5/24 falls off next year, and the average age won't be hurt THAT much by then since every account save one is dated 2019 anyway? That's a no brainer.
Mine has never graduated and after the one year mark I applied again and got $5k SL
If it does end up unsecuring it's not bad to have two Discover cards since the rewards are different
Yeah, but the DiscoverIt card I have has "bleh" rules, it's a 2% on gas and restaurants/1% everything else now that it's Cashback Match is dead. Literally ALL my cards beat that in some combination. The only downside would be I'll lose a year of aging the account, but since this account was opened in January 2019, it's actually not all that helpful (I have one account C1 says is from 2003, everything else is still in ink-drying stage from 2019).
Since my current plan of record is to spend 2020 gardening current cards and not apply for anything, so I can start looking at Chase cards in 2021 once my Ch 13 falls off in December 2020, I'm sort of indifferent to a second Discover card, as long as I have ONE Discover card with Cashback Match for the year, good bonuses and a good credit limit. I'd rather put the $500 in a good savings account as a rainy day fund.
