Next Steps in the Rebuild Process?

Hello,

I am currently rebuilding my credit.  I settled pretty much all of my credit card and unsecured debt with the exception of Pentagon Federal Credit Union as they are "reversing the charge off" after I make 6 payments and granting me a loan.

I want to try to open a credit card:

Navy Denied me I sent a secure messag (awaiting response)

Capital One Denied due to past experience (not a HP)

Applied with Wells Fargo... Denied... Requested Manual Review so we will see as I bank with them

Apple Care...Denied..SP

Any advice?

Equifax: 576

Transunion: 602

Experian: 680

FYI both Navy and Wells Fargo Pulled TU

Thank you in advance!

You'll need to consider opening secured cards, one or two to start.
Discover, Citi, US Bank and Capital One are decent options.
You may also want to consider Open Sky because there is not even HP.

Re: Next Steps in the Rebuild Process?

Thanks Remedies! If I go secured I was thinking NFCU as they have a secured option / Wells Fargo.

Oh, Navy for sure!
I'm really not familiar with WF and their secured cards, and I dont see that many people who have it. Doesn't mean it's not good, but definitely not as popular
You've done the hard part by paying the debt, so if you can afford it, it's a great time to start building

Re: Next Steps in the Rebuild Process?

Have you had prior unsatisfactory relationship with BoA? If not, they pull Experian depending on your state. Try going in branch to apply for their unsecured card. If denied, see if they will counter offer secured card $99 deposit / $500 credit line.

@Collegestudent2017,

Congrats on the rebuild progress especially the HUGE win with PenFed reversing the chargeoff—that should bring a healthy increase in points. How many more months do you have in the 6 month plan?

I’m terms of new CCs, consider these as I think they pull Experian:

:Citi, Discover...both have pre-qual sites you can check
:Amazon Secured (can graduate after 7 mos). I’ve seen folks with your scores get approved.

Good Luck

Re: Next Steps in the Rebuild Process?

Thank you everyone! I actually just noticed I had a pretty bad typo in my original post. My Experian score is a 580 not a 680!

Re: Next Steps in the Rebuild Process?

^ That is a big difference.

Hopefully, you can get a secured card with Navy and Wells.
