In another thread I responded that I just suffered a 19 point drop after paying a chargeoff to OC (Macy's/Burdines).
Sidewinder mentioned that it could have something to do with the date closed.
Well I checked my SW alert and it showed Burdines changed the DOLA from
9/2003 to 11/2003.
When I paid this chargeoff in full, I got a letter saying Burdines should be deleted from the CRAs from Macys. Additionally, they said they would also let the CRAs know Burdines account should be deleted. I sent my letter from Macy's to all CRA's reporting this and I get this drop in score.
Should I dispute this. I do have CR showing DOLA 9/2003 from Burdines.
It's been a long time since I've been this angry, but I think that's good because it means I care a lot, I've matured, and I know consequences of irresponsible financial behavior. Just don't kick me when I'm trying to do the right thing.
What do I do now, if anything? It seems like doing something (paying) got me in this particular trouble.
The score drop could have came from the dispute.
Certain aspects of a TL that is reported by the OC is ignored from scoring while in dispute.
I would wait for the outcome before doing anything.

Here's an update to this situation.
I called Macy's yesterday and they told me to fax over reports showing the change in dates. The lady in credit recovery saw the discrepancies and said she would have to show this to her boss who would decide what should be done and she would give me a call to let me know the outcome.
She just called me and said the boss didn't understand why this update reset the the DOLA either and that he was going over to tradelines to get it fixed. She also stated that they had instructed the CRAs to delete the Burdines account (which became Macy's), but that didn't happen. So, I told her I will keep watch on my credit monitoring and call back if there were any problems, she was very helpful.
I don't know if we are allowed to leave names, but her's is Ms. Banks in credit recovery. Very reasonable and honest lady.
Special thanks to Journey and Sidewinder for giving me back some sanity as it relates to this FICO scoring nightmare.
No problem, PalmBeach!
Glad they were so helpful!
I haven't heard from them since I faxed my stuff, so I'll call tomorrow morning to see what I can find out.
palm,
I was wondering how did you score drop after paying your macy bill off
