Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

You're the second forum member who has stated this. New tactic, I don't know. Is the collection marked as in dispute?

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

It looks like something they started in the last week or so.  I came here to find info. on this happening and found this thread.  My collections have all been marked in dispute since I started the HIPAA process.

Guess I will wait and see.  I will keep you updated.

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

This is what I found.  I'm mailing mine today.  It appears to be a stall tactic to me but if anyone knows more I'd appreciate a reply.  Transunion instructions are vague but I would go ahead and send copies of everything to them, ex., previous address, copies, etc. like the other two ask for.

EXPERIAN

TRANSUNON - In order to protect your identity, you must submit a written request to remove the fraud alert from your credit file. Please send your request to: TransUnion, P.O. Box 6790, Fullerton, CA  92834.

EQUIFAX - A written request is required to remove a fraud alert from your file. You may write to Customer Service at the following address: Equifax Information Services LLC
PO Box 105069
Atlanta, GA 30348-5069
Please be sure to include your name, social security number, current and previous addresses, date of birth, and telephone number.

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

It is easier for the CBs to just file a fraud alert then to investigate a dispute!  If this happens on any dispute be sure to file a complaint with the FTC!!!

Be sure to tell them (FTC) that instead of investigating a medical dispute the CBs filed a fraud alert that you did not request!

Send all ID requested by the CBs in order to have the alert removed.

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

I filed a complaint with the FTC on all 3 bureau's and sending verification of my address, id, etc. to each one.  Pretty much overloaded them with proof of my identity.  Definitely overkill but if they want to act like idioits I can treat them like idioits.

I'm sending certified.  Will cost more but I'd really hate for my info to get lost in the mail.

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

This is a good move, besides the CRAs hate when consumers file FTC complaints against them.

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

The Fraud Alert was placed on 4/5/09 (per the statement on CR) but I didn't receive notification from TrueCredit of the change until yesterday.  Its as though one (Experian) put it on and the other two picked up on it at a later date.  It would be interesting to note that 4/5/09 was a Sunday and the last HIPPA letter I sent was delivered on Thurs. the 2nd.

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

Transunion didn't put a fraud alert on me, just the other two.  I got a letter from Experian saying they put the fraud alert on and notified EQ and TU to do the same.  EQ complied, so far TU hasn't.

Should I wait the 30 days to file a complaint and see if they respond to the content of the letter, or just file it today?

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

Once one CRA places a FA on your report, the others follow too. This is one of the few instances where CRAs comunicate with each other. TU is just slow with everything. Once it hits TU, file complaints with the FTC against all three CRAs.

Re: Another HIPAA Dispute question

Will do. I mailed out the dispute on 4/4, TU received it 4/6 and 'verified' on 4/9.

I will wait for the 3rd fraud alert and then gladly file a complaint with the FTC.  I want them to feel some small amount of aggrevation that they have put me through.

Well, I got home tonight and there was a nice letter from EQ - all medical collections have been deleted from the file!!!  I am really excited.  Hopefully EX will see it the same way.
