Inquiry: Number of Points

I searched for an hour and didn't find an answer: ROUGHLY how many points does a hard inquiry cost me?  closer to 5?  25?  100?

Thanks!

Re: Inquiry: Number of Points

Huge variation depending on initial FICO and number of Inqs you already have on the CR.

But my personal guess, as a generic average, is 0 to 10 for a single new inq.

Inqs are about 10% of your score

Re: Inquiry: Number of Points

A second one on my TU report seemed to cost me 2 points.

Re: Inquiry: Number of Points

Great info!  Very helpful!

To clarify: what do you mean by "initial FICO" score?  The score immediately preceding the inquiry?  Or my first FICO score ever?

And by huge variation, are you saying the variation is between 1 and 10, not between 1 and 50 or 100?

Thanks!

Re: Inquiry: Number of Points

Something that may help you.  If you need or want to apply for credit, check out www.whogavemecredit.com.

Besides given out credit scores for the cards, you can see which CRAs the CCC's pull from so if say you have 3 req on TU, 2 on EQ and 0 on EX, you might want to go with a CCC that pulls from EX.  Note that there is no guarnaty that the info is correct, just a place to start.

The Score the day before the inq was posted.

Again, my personal opinion is that the score hit just for the inq is likely to be 10 or less.

If the inq leads to a new account, all sorts of things can happen, good and bad.
