Re: paying off an old collection

twt11, SOL is very important when dealing with CAs, because there is a certain amount of leverage available, depending where you are. For example, if SOL is almost up, I would be very quiet about trying to DV anything-don't want to wake the sleeping dog. If out of SOL, your leverage is greater. If they do happen to validate, then you can try PFD. They can't sue and win, so if they are smart, they can at least get some of the $ and at the same time, do you a favor by deleting from your CRs.

Re: paying off an old collection

one last thing I tossed the last letter I got from them about 2 months ago. do I now need to wait for a new letter to arrive or is there a way to look up all the relevant information without calling the CA?

Boone, what relevant information are you looking for from them? If you have your name, address and an account number (even partial), that's plenty to send them a DV. Please don't wait.

Edit: D'oh. Meant to say "if you have their name..."

Re: paying off an old collection

I sent DV to CA yesterday CMRRR. I was checking my billing records and noticed that I've had tmobile,at+t, and verizon cell services but never Sprint. I also checked and I've never lived at one of the addresses listed so I am going to request a fraud packet from cavalry portfolio, fill it out and send it CMRRR to the Vice President as soon as my DV is received. Should I do that immediately or when?

Re: paying off an old collection

I have a collection on my report that is maybe 6 months old. I'm trying to get my score up b/c I'm applying for credit w/in the next couple of months. I thought if I paid it and it showed a zero balance it would go up. Am I to understand that it would actually go down b/c the date will reset to a newer collection?

Re: paying off an old collection

I sent letters to everyone this week.. I dv'd 2 collections, I got brutalized over the phone by one CA.. All I could do was listen.. The lady wouldn't shut up.. Talking about sueing and stuff... So Whatever.. Now
I pfd' the water dept by accident however I found my apt lease agreement where I have lived since 2003 and they pay water ... so the water bill says opened in 2004... Cant be possible . I am going nuts .. Oh and get this my sallie mae account that is in deferment reported to EXP 29 late payments.. They are counting every month that was in deferment .. They even verified it. LOL so I called sallie mae and the lady said " wait a minute thats wrong " sorry .. I show that its in deferment and not late.. WTF..
Talk about an error..
Did Saliie Mae have a little to much to drink last month???
