Incorrect by Suze's FICO, but correct on Experian?

New member here...or should I say a disappointed new member? Why? Well, after a few years of watching Suze on Oprah encourage people to get in touch with their FICO score, I finally bit & I bought her FICO Platinum kit. Yep, I plunked down that VISA debit card I have used for years, spent my $50 for 3 reports & 3 scores. What a surprise!  Why would this be just a BIT upsetting? A little background: I have worked REALLY hard to get my scores up into the 700-777 range. Under the circumstances, this has not been E-Z! I had a serious injury over 13 yrs. ago, resulting in the death of my 17 yrs. of self-employment. Physically I could not handle it. This was right after my divorce, so this was a terrible blow.  I did have a disability plan, but my ex-husband canceled it.  I found out too late. I faced reality, intermittenly sobbing, couldn't eat, sleep, etc. BUT...I made myself get out of bed every morning & get  rehabilitated.  I faced the fact I was going to be forced to sell my home. It was hard to let go after 17 yrs. there.  I used most of my equity to pay my mortgage off, paid off as many personal major bills as I could as well as many business bills, & then regrettably had to file bankruptcy on the rest.  THIS KILLED ME as I had never even had a late payment from age 17 to age 50.  In the middle of it all, then the worst...I lost my health insurance...another setback. As I could barely work, I was losing my earning ability at the same time.  BUT...I read many books &  learned alot about credit issues.  I pulled myself up by the bootstraps, (along with my cane), forced myself to go back to school at age 51, & get re-educated in a new field, successfully passing licensing exams in Michigan & Florida. I can do this new work because I can sit quite a bit, so the problems are managable & most people don't even know I have a problem.  (walking is painful if I am vertical more than 10 minutes, so I plan very carefully). I was introduced to Suze on PBS, a Godsend.  I took Suze's advice, & when I sold my home, I relocated to a less inexpensive area in Florida with low cost of living, about 1,300 miles from home & family.  I sold most everything, put my 2 dogs in my van, & drove to Florida alone in 2001, 3 weeks after 9/11.  The world was sad, I was sad. I had no place to go, I was 54, had an 8 yr. old Nissan Quest van that was dependable if nothing else.  I decided to enjoy my trip even if I had no destination except a friend's spare room for 2 weeks.  After that, I didn't know. As I drove south that Fall through the Smokey Moutains, it seemed that someone painted the forests, hills, & sunsets just for me.  I enjoyed the beautiful oranges, yellows, & reds nature painted just for me that Fall.  I met nice people in little towns I stopped in along the way.  It took me 5 days to make the trip alone, but I did it & felt triumphant.  Then, a miracle.  While staying w/ my friend, one day after an exhaustive search with my 2 week visit nearly over, we found a little place I could handle financially.  With the balance of my proceeds, I negotiated a price of $7,000 for an empty old mobile home (not the Ritz) & I downgraded my lifestyle. I have been here over 6 yrs. now. I have learned alot, but was really depressed for a while.  Then after finding just the right job situation where I could work at home, last year, I made $42,000 in commissions.  I finally got my credit in good shape in 2006.  (that was after 100's of written challenges to the credit reporting agencies) So today I decided to get my 3 FICO scores after seeing Suze on Oprah again.   So how come I am writing this post?  Well, nowhere on ANY credit agency report does it say "she had a bankruptcy" because that stuff has been off my credit reports for years. There have been NO negatives for years, nothing, zip, zilch, nada!  When I recently got my credit report, I felt victorious when I looked at a score of over 700 & then my auto insurance company pulled credit & told me my score was 777 & my premium went down!  So  how come on my "Suze FICO Kit - Platinum" when I printed off my 3 reports, Suze has in my Transunion credit report that my August 1999 paid auto loan was "unrated or bankruptcy" ?  Hey, I thought this was supposed to be accurate?  So I went to the last Transunion recent report I got on my own & no negatives, no mention of any bankruptcy, etc.!  I thought when I plunked down my $50,  I would at least get something accurate from Suze.  So what's the deal? Why is there different information in my "Suze reports"  compared to my actual Transunion report?  If Equifax, Experian, & Transunion make NO REFERENCE to this information & the info is older than dirt, & they took it off YEARS ago, why is it in Suze's information?   Isn't this a violation of my FCRA rights to inaccurately report this?  Someone needs to explain this to meI got these 3 scores & 3 reports specifically to go & see my banker in the morning. I was going to go &  show him my current scores & discuss my credit & see if I could consolidate a couple bills just generated during an emergency flood in my home due to a water leak that has cost me a bundle to fix.  Now how can I say....as I point to SUZE'S report, ..."Oh, and look, here's my new Transunion........".  I have sent in an email on the "CONTACT US" link at her site, but I gotta tell you, after spending $50, I was really shocked to see this glaring error. I have got to believe she will fix this, right????  Please let me know.  Somebody pleeeeeazzz tell me that it's easy to fix....like maybe it's a typo????

Re: Incorrect by Suze's FICO, but correct on Experian?

My DW had a few trade lines on her reports that reported an account status as unrated or bankruptcy...this doesn't mean you have a BK reporting on your file. Yes, this is inaccurate and you can dispute this but I have to say my wife never took a hit to her scores when these trade lines were reporting like this. What is your TU FICO score?

Re: Incorrect by Suze's FICO, but correct on Experian?

Hi there,
I just posted a similar post
no one answered my post so I guess no one can explain it.

While mine isnt as major a discrepancy as yours..I agree 100% in you pay the money for the report ..it SHOULD be correct...I was left more confused then when I started!

Who do you go to to correct FICO error's...when it is not on any of your actual credit reports,  just somewhere in FICO's mind ....FICO need's someone who we can also dispute with! Smiley Mad

Sorry to hear of you bad luck and i hope 2008 is a good year for you Smiley Happy

Re: Incorrect by Suze's FICO, but correct on Experian?

Hi there and thank you for your response.  To answer your question, after opening these accounts, my score right now on TU is 644, and though this is not what I want, I can live with this for a temporary period.  Why? Because, I actually consulted with my banker where I have had my savings account over the last 6 years.  We looked at what my choices were.  I only get paid ONCE a month and sometimes after writing insurance policies, it can take 2-3 months to get paid, depending on the type of policy and who the carrier is.  If I delayed in fixing these problems, I would have to move out of my place and go live somewhere else while I waited for my quarterly bonus, my insurance renewals checks, my production bonus, etc, and some of that was not due for 6 months or 3 months.  It made no sense to wait, as I did not want to pay for 2 households when I am single.   We thought it made sense to open some accounts and use credit for the first time in 6 yrs. because it would accomplish TWO goals.  The first would be getting things fixed.  The second would ultimately be positive because by opening some accounts, I would have access to various construction materials, and also be able to infuse fresh accounts into my credit reports, that had mostly old accounts and a few other newer ones like Walmart.  Having not done anything but WORK, sometimes 20 hrs. a day,  to RECOVER MY LIFE for almost 13 yrs., though I still had good accounts on my credit reports, this seemed to be the way to go.  He suggested that even though most of the accounts I would open did not have requirements to make monthly payments, I could simply voluntarily make  6 consecutive payments on all of them, which I could afford to do, so that would even look better and it seemed reasonable to me.  He said in 6 months, my credit score would probably go up to over 800.

In addition, because of the water leak, it needed to be repaired IMMEDIATELY.  To wait even one day would have been even more expensive and result in more damages.  What I did was pick the lesser or the 2 evils, but so far it has work out great, and I even got a letter from Walmart increasing my credit limit, which I did not ask for.  This has been the only credit I have used since getting it last year and I have been careful to never been late, only use it each month to buy groceries, then the bill would come, and I paid it off immediately.   I also discussed with my banker whether or not I should just junk my place, forget fixing it and just move again, which I could do because new mobile home dealers in this area of Florida will take my old one as a trade-in on a new one, but after considering that, the cost would leave me owing about $45,000, so this is why I decided to repair instead of replace.  We did an analysis and figured it out and it was just better to deal with the damage in that way.  ( I added up what it has cost me to fix this & keep a roof over my head (a nice one now) and it's around $25,000, but considering I only paid $7,000 six years ago, and I have made MANY very nice improvements, all those prior improvements would be lost, so fixing was the best decision.  My mobile home insurer right now has it insured for $58,000, and this is before all the new work I did, including new kitchen, baths, including a new triple size walk in shower, new carpet, tile, windows, doors, etc.

Yes, it hit my TU score and that went from 777 to 644 because I opened 6 accounts at places like Home Depot, my own bank where I immediate got a $10,000 limit and remember this was after I had NO new accounts for over 6 years.  I also opened a signature loan.  BUT....almost all of the accounts, with the exception of 2, have no interest, no payments, no pre-payment penalties, and I owe them NOTHING until a year goes by, so it like 1 year, same as cash which I can handle because of my insurance renewals that I will have LIFE as long as my clients are still on the books.    In my work, the average Medicare client holds the policy for over 25 years and I get renewals for that entire time.  The average renewal each year, for each client, is from $25 to $200, so just add this up over time.  Most of my clients are the elderly buying long term care, medicare supplements, and medicare prescription cards and let's face it, this is why I thought it would be a good idea to come to Florida.  It was like money laying on the ground waiting for me to pick it up.

I can deal with all this.  What I can't deal with is the attitude of Suze's customer service people I spoke with at length yesterday.  They listened to this and THEN I was told the following:

1) This happened because of all the products she has, I picked the FICO Platinum kit.  I was told by John, employee # 5857, if only I had picked this or that product of hers, it would not have printed the word "bankruptcy" so it's too bad I made that particular choice.  (so it's MY fault)

2) John also explained to me with the sympathy of a wet mop that there is nothing wrong with this and that all I had to do was "go and challenge my credit report with Transunion".   I explained to John that if an account on my ACTUAL TU report states "unrated", then why would Suze's version ADD the word "bankruptcy" to that and say "unrated or bankruptcy"?  And most of all, why would this be perfectly alright with Suze Orman, after all, her name is on it?  He explained she really has nothing to do with any of this, she just lends her name to the business I just paid $50 to.  I said, "do you mean to tell me she is not making any money from using her name to entice me to buy this product for $50?  Do you mean she makes no money from this, has no written contract that she would get any benefits from lending her name?" He almost swallowed his tongue and had a hard time answering that.  I think that was left swinging in the wind.

3) John also explained that the reason it printed the word "bankruptcy" was because of "problems with programming language" and that if I went to the FairIssac site I could complain there, which I did.  What do you want to bet, I get nothing but another person who thinks this is no big deal?

4) I explained to John I just paid $50 and expected that my "Suze" Transunion credit report should look EXACTLY like my ACTUAL Transunion and that their "programming problems" should not be adding negative verbage like the word "bankruptcy" when this word appears NOWHERE on ANY of my credit reports.  His attitude on this hour long call was that I was making a big deal over nothing.  I asked him to consider that my banker could look at this (or anyone else he wanted to show the report to) and they could interpret this as "there is a 50% chance that this person had this account in a bankruptcy in the last 10 yrs".  I asked him why Suze would want to go along with printing this on my report, especially considering what I have been through in the last 13 yrs.?  My position is that I have already paid the penalty of that very old bankruptcy and considering how hard I have worked, why should I HAVE TO look at Suze's version of my Transunion and have other people raising their eyebrows at me ALL OVER AGAIN?  Suze's report that I purchased, if it really takes the information from the respective credit reporting agency, should be EXACTLY like the real one, right?  I am told by John, NO!

5) John thought it was no big deal that it printed the word "bankruptcy", and called to my attention that in the area where it can describe "Public Records", it says NONE on all my credit reports.  My response?  "Yeah, that's right John, very perseptive of you, so why in the world would SUZE and now YOU, think it just fine and dandy that their "programming problems", resulting in printing this extra offensive word "bankruptcy", be ok? John's reponse was to tell me he was going to give me a free report.

6) John then explained that there are 2 car loans on my Suze Transunion report by the same credit union years ago.  in 1999.  He stated that this must be the reason, even though nothing is shown about any bankruptcy.  He states that now it's up to me to challenge the ACTUAL Transunion report and get one of them off because they must be a duplicate, even though there are no words like "bankruptcy".  I BEG YOUR PARDON!  So what I am being told is no one gives a darn if their troublesome programming problems just decide to add words to my report that in reality don't exist?   YES, that is their postion.  He just kept telling me to "go to Transunion".   If you have ever tried to do ANYTHING with Transunion, you know what a can of words that is, right?  You know that they are about as helpful as disturbed hornet's nest, and that they are arrogant, uncooperative even when a person is right and they are wrong and you know their motive is PROFIT, and not ACCURACY.  Be that as it may, since there is nothing OFFENSIVE on the ACTUAL report, why should Suze's Transunion ADD this word?  WHY should I have to be burdened with 45 days of screwing around with Transunion, who as you know could give a darn what is on my credit report?  They don't!  All they care about is selling my personal private information and making a buck and now it appears that Suze is doing the same but just adding  the word "bankruptcy" and I got to pay $50 for this?

So much for the assistance that Suze's customer "service" people provide!!!!Smiley Mad

The worst thing about this is that all these years, I really looked up to Suze have listened to her and read her books, bought her blue briefcase, etc. and it's really a shame to find out that she is now more interested is selling my information back to me to make $50 and she really, according to John, has no problem with the ADDED word, "bankruptcy" which DOES NOT SHOW on the ACTUAL TU credit report. You would think that a WOMAN who has "made it" would not tolerate it if her own product made life more difficult for another woman, but hey, I guess for her, it must be about just getting that $50 for the report.

By the way, my next stop is http://www.oprah.com forum because there are a heck of a lot of people over there who probably will get sucked into this profit making venture of Suze's.  I have to wonder how Oprah would react if she got her report from Suze and found the same reference to "bankruptcy".  Do ya think she would say, oh, well, that's ok?  NEVER!

Your support is certainly appreciated.   I feel like I have been scammed.  That was an e-z $50 for Suze.

Re: Incorrect by Suze's FICO, but correct on Experian?

Thanks for the support "bamagirl1".  I can't even tell you how disappointed I still am 24 hours later, to

learn that they didn't even bat an eyelash when I called customer "service" to report this garbage.

You would think common sense would tell them that when their "programming problems"

ADD the word "bankruptcy" to a credit report that does not have this word, they would be just a bit concerned, but NO, and especially when they can easily see the REAL TRANSUNION report shows NOTHING even close to that

word, no inferences, no nothing!

======================================================================
1-22-08 BEFORE BUYING SUZE's FICO ENDORSED REPORTS:
TU = no language anywhere on any report referencing, stating or printing the word "bankruptcy"
EXP =  no language anywhere on any report referencing, stating or printing the word "bankruptcy"
EXQ =  no language anywhere on any report referencing, stating or printing the word "bankruptcy"
(and these were in the 740 - 777 range before I just opened a couple accounts at once. This I can live with for a while, but would YOU live with the change to YOUR report below?)

===============================================================================
1-22-08  Purchasing a Suze's endorsed product for $50 resulted in NEW LANGUAGE IN MY REPORT SAYING, "BANKRUPTCY" WHEN ACTUAL TRANSUNION DOES NOT SAY THIS AT ALL.
(Oh, and I am supposed to suck it up and accept their inadequate and flimsy excuse that this is OK because they have "programming problem" !

What would you do?

Re: Incorrect by Suze's FICO, but correct on Experian?

sunsets,

To answer your question "What would you do?". I would first of all stop using enlarged type, bold type, italitized type. Next I would stop the rambling posts, it's too much to digest.

Have you read thoroughly what to expect from this product? Sounds to me like a huge gap between your expectations for the product and what the product actually does. I would settle down and start over again but this time i wouldn't proceed from step 1 to step 2 without a full understanding of what to expect.

God Luck

Re: Incorrect by Suze's FICO, but correct on Experian?

The way that works is that a few accounts, depending on the way TU sends them over will be coded 'unrated' OR 'IIB'  This does not mean that there is a BK is simply means that the info that was transmitted with TU codes did not play well with this system.  If a creditor were to pull that info, they would pull it directly from TU and my myfico so it would not make a difference.  It is not hurting your scores at all.  TU just uses a different system which will cause some accounts to show unrated.
