Hi there and thank you for your response. To answer your question, after opening these accounts, my score right now on TU is 644, and though this is not what I want, I can live with this for a temporary period. Why? Because, I actually consulted with my banker where I have had my savings account over the last 6 years. We looked at what my choices were. I only get paid ONCE a month and sometimes after writing insurance policies, it can take 2-3 months to get paid, depending on the type of policy and who the carrier is. If I delayed in fixing these problems, I would have to move out of my place and go live somewhere else while I waited for my quarterly bonus, my insurance renewals checks, my production bonus, etc, and some of that was not due for 6 months or 3 months. It made no sense to wait, as I did not want to pay for 2 households when I am single. We thought it made sense to open some accounts and use credit for the first time in 6 yrs. because it would accomplish TWO goals. The first would be getting things fixed. The second would ultimately be positive because by opening some accounts, I would have access to various construction materials, and also be able to infuse fresh accounts into my credit reports, that had mostly old accounts and a few other newer ones like Walmart. Having not done anything but WORK, sometimes 20 hrs. a day, to RECOVER MY LIFE for almost 13 yrs., though I still had good accounts on my credit reports, this seemed to be the way to go. He suggested that even though most of the accounts I would open did not have requirements to make monthly payments, I could simply voluntarily make 6 consecutive payments on all of them, which I could afford to do, so that would even look better and it seemed reasonable to me. He said in 6 months, my credit score would probably go up to over 800.
In addition, because of the water leak, it needed to be repaired IMMEDIATELY. To wait even one day would have been even more expensive and result in more damages. What I did was pick the lesser or the 2 evils, but so far it has work out great, and I even got a letter from Walmart increasing my credit limit, which I did not ask for. This has been the only credit I have used since getting it last year and I have been careful to never been late, only use it each month to buy groceries, then the bill would come, and I paid it off immediately. I also discussed with my banker whether or not I should just junk my place, forget fixing it and just move again, which I could do because new mobile home dealers in this area of Florida will take my old one as a trade-in on a new one, but after considering that, the cost would leave me owing about $45,000, so this is why I decided to repair instead of replace. We did an analysis and figured it out and it was just better to deal with the damage in that way. ( I added up what it has cost me to fix this & keep a roof over my head (a nice one now) and it's around $25,000, but considering I only paid $7,000 six years ago, and I have made MANY very nice improvements, all those prior improvements would be lost, so fixing was the best decision. My mobile home insurer right now has it insured for $58,000, and this is before all the new work I did, including new kitchen, baths, including a new triple size walk in shower, new carpet, tile, windows, doors, etc.
Yes, it hit my TU score and that went from 777 to 644 because I opened 6 accounts at places like Home Depot, my own bank where I immediate got a $10,000 limit and remember this was after I had NO new accounts for over 6 years. I also opened a signature loan. BUT....almost all of the accounts, with the exception of 2, have no interest, no payments, no pre-payment penalties, and I owe them NOTHING until a year goes by, so it like 1 year, same as cash which I can handle because of my insurance renewals that I will have LIFE as long as my clients are still on the books. In my work, the average Medicare client holds the policy for over 25 years and I get renewals for that entire time. The average renewal each year, for each client, is from $25 to $200, so just add this up over time. Most of my clients are the elderly buying long term care, medicare supplements, and medicare prescription cards and let's face it, this is why I thought it would be a good idea to come to Florida. It was like money laying on the ground waiting for me to pick it up.
I can deal with all this. What I can't deal with is the attitude of Suze's customer service people I spoke with at length yesterday. They listened to this and THEN I was told the following:
1) This happened because of all the products she has, I picked the FICO Platinum kit. I was told by John, employee # 5857, if only I had picked this or that product of hers, it would not have printed the word "bankruptcy" so it's too bad I made that particular choice. (so it's MY fault)
2) John also explained to me with the sympathy of a wet mop that there is nothing wrong with this and that all I had to do was "go and challenge my credit report with Transunion". I explained to John that if an account on my ACTUAL TU report states "unrated", then why would Suze's version ADD the word "bankruptcy" to that and say "unrated or bankruptcy"? And most of all, why would this be perfectly alright with Suze Orman, after all, her name is on it? He explained she really has nothing to do with any of this, she just lends her name to the business I just paid $50 to. I said, "do you mean to tell me she is not making any money from using her name to entice me to buy this product for $50? Do you mean she makes no money from this, has no written contract that she would get any benefits from lending her name?" He almost swallowed his tongue and had a hard time answering that. I think that was left swinging in the wind.
3) John also explained that the reason it printed the word "bankruptcy" was because of "problems with programming language" and that if I went to the FairIssac site I could complain there, which I did. What do you want to bet, I get nothing but another person who thinks this is no big deal?
4) I explained to John I just paid $50 and expected that my "Suze" Transunion credit report should look EXACTLY like my ACTUAL Transunion and that their "programming problems" should not be adding negative verbage like the word "bankruptcy" when this word appears NOWHERE on ANY of my credit reports. His attitude on this hour long call was that I was making a big deal over nothing. I asked him to consider that my banker could look at this (or anyone else he wanted to show the report to) and they could interpret this as "there is a 50% chance that this person had this account in a bankruptcy in the last 10 yrs". I asked him why Suze would want to go along with printing this on my report, especially considering what I have been through in the last 13 yrs.? My position is that I have already paid the penalty of that very old bankruptcy and considering how hard I have worked, why should I HAVE TO look at Suze's version of my Transunion and have other people raising their eyebrows at me ALL OVER AGAIN? Suze's report that I purchased, if it really takes the information from the respective credit reporting agency, should be EXACTLY like the real one, right? I am told by John, NO!
5) John thought it was no big deal that it printed the word "bankruptcy", and called to my attention that in the area where it can describe "Public Records", it says NONE on all my credit reports. My response? "Yeah, that's right John, very perseptive of you, so why in the world would SUZE and now YOU, think it just fine and dandy that their "programming problems", resulting in printing this extra offensive word "bankruptcy", be ok? John's reponse was to tell me he was going to give me a free report.
6) John then explained that there are 2 car loans on my Suze Transunion report by the same credit union years ago. in 1999. He stated that this must be the reason, even though nothing is shown about any bankruptcy. He states that now it's up to me to challenge the ACTUAL Transunion report and get one of them off because they must be a duplicate, even though there are no words like "bankruptcy". I BEG YOUR PARDON! So what I am being told is no one gives a darn if their troublesome programming problems just decide to add words to my report that in reality don't exist? YES, that is their postion. He just kept telling me to "go to Transunion". If you have ever tried to do ANYTHING with Transunion, you know what a can of words that is, right? You know that they are about as helpful as disturbed hornet's nest, and that they are arrogant, uncooperative even when a person is right and they are wrong and you know their motive is PROFIT, and not ACCURACY. Be that as it may, since there is nothing OFFENSIVE on the ACTUAL report, why should Suze's Transunion ADD this word? WHY should I have to be burdened with 45 days of screwing around with Transunion, who as you know could give a darn what is on my credit report? They don't! All they care about is selling my personal private information and making a buck and now it appears that Suze is doing the same but just adding the word "bankruptcy" and I got to pay $50 for this?
So much for the assistance that Suze's customer "service" people provide!!!!
.
The worst thing about this is that all these years, I really looked up to Suze have listened to her and read her books, bought her blue briefcase, etc. and it's really a shame to find out that she is now more interested is selling my information back to me to make $50 and she really, according to John, has no problem with the ADDED word, "bankruptcy" which DOES NOT SHOW on the ACTUAL TU credit report. You would think that a WOMAN who has "made it" would not tolerate it if her own product made life more difficult for another woman, but hey, I guess for her, it must be about just getting that $50 for the report.
By the way, my next stop is
http://www.oprah.com forum because there are a heck of a lot of people over there who probably will get sucked into this profit making venture of Suze's. I have to wonder how Oprah would react if she got her report from Suze and found the same reference to "bankruptcy". Do ya think she would say, oh, well, that's ok? NEVER!
