Re: The many flavors of FICO:__Editions, versions, and variations

Discover card provides a free Fico 8 score with each month's statement (form TransUnion). Credit Karma membership is free and it offers free VantageScore 3.0 credit scores monthly - it may also offer some free credit monitoring but I have not checked into that.

Re: The many flavors of FICO:__Editions, versions, and variations

Message 1 lists

FICO 98, "Experian: Official name: Experian FICO Score 2 (also known as Experian FICO Risk Model v2)”
FICO 04, “Experian: Official name: Experian FICO Risk Model v3”

Should we change the latter to

FICO 04: “Experian: Official name: Experian FICO Score 3 (also known as Experian FICO Risk Model v3)”

because I see that myFICO reports now mention "FICO® Score 3 300-850 Previous version predominantly used for credit card lending”.

Reference is the publicly disclosed sheets for the bureaus.  I don't know why myFICO decided to dumb down the names but they aren't accurate.

Actually in re-reading I do see the discrepancy but we should be switching the 98 version: Experian FICO® Risk Model v2 is the reference name by my standards anyway.

ETA: my CreditCo tri-merge summary sheet dumbed it down too apparently.

Many thanks for this info.  I updated the original post as you suggested.

The post still has the "old style" names for TU-98 and TU-04.

Has anyone seen "new style" names for these versions?

Re: The many flavors of FICO:__Editions, versions, and variations

I revised the original post with some updated information.

I revised the top paragraph to describe more completely the 19 score versions now available from MyFICO.

The "new style" name for TU-04 is Transunion FICO Score 4

So I added this under the FICO 04 section:

  • Official name:   Transunion FICO Score 4  (also known as Transunion FICO Risk Score Classic 04)
EQ-04 FICO__804__(from DCU)__inquiries = 0
EQ-08 FICO__826__(from MyFICO)__inquiries = 0

Re: The many flavors of FICO:__Editions, versions, and variations

I took the liberty of consolidating your Fico version score range information with data I have collected on industry specific score ranges. The TransUnion data comes directly from a TU "SCORES OVERVIEW" document entitled: TransUnion Scores. The Experian data comes directly from EX "booklet - 714" PDF documents. The Equifax ranges are 3rd party sources.

Re: The many flavors of FICO:__Editions, versions, and variations

People talk about this 818 as the upper end of the EQ 04 range, but I'm not so sure it applies to everyone because various people have reported 817 over the years, but I don't remember ever having come across an 818. Also, you may enjoy the numbers tossed around here.

Re: The many flavors of FICO:__Editions, versions, and variations

General note - Based on scoring data observations over time, Fico 04 and Fico 08 have a slightly different attitude toward new credit (inquiries) as follows:

Fico 08 Motto - Some new credit is good, a lot of new credit is bad.

Fico 04 Motto - All new credit is suspect

See below for score distribution information. The 1st is EQ Fico 04 Mortgage scores. The 2nd is Fico 08 Classic scores.:
