Capital One CLI no joy

Okay so had the Walmart Mastercard from Cap1 that was first approved back in Dec 2021 and my CRA reports have 6 Good Checkmarks with a 7th one upcoming next week. Been using their enemic meager $2000 SL consistently several times every month with good useage and PIF.

Kinda of a stickler when it comes to running purchases thru low line cards like this, but it looks to me like i'm just beating a dead horse with Capital One. No prob really since my entire profile has STRONG SOLID lines that DO increase on a set schedule. Also implimenting AZEO 2 years running now.

Last months request was a bust and did another one this week with the same "You have a document" repeating the same old junk not enough useage of the line lingo. BS.  So as of NOW this card goes in the drawer of cards to FORGET and leave dormant to collect dust.

Just for the record i only intend to seen this one to $5K tops if that was possible (heck a 1K now would be ok) and leave Capital One alone because it's like major surgery squeezing a CLI out them, not only me but many others are frustrated. Difference on this end is that other cards are much more rewarding with at least some increases after lesser time than Capital One requires after a first approval.

I sympathize other cardholders who just can't shake this brick called Capital One for a small increase to lift a puny SL line up just a little bit anyway. BUT wanna hear the kicker? That Triple kill puller will gladly open most a NEW CARD and that quirky ordeal might even be their chief intention as to why they choose to sit on certain accounts despite usage.

Since you commented on my CapOne thread, I'll do the same Smiley Very Happy

Dealing with low limit CapOne products is tiring..

One of my regular CapOne cards (opened as an unsecured platinum) sat at it's initial $500 CL for 26 months with light (0-30% usage) usage and was paid in full most months. I carried a balance into the next month a few times (maybe 3 times?).

I tried for CLI's a few times over those 26 months when I knew my overall utilization was decently low and my scores were higher than when I originally app'ed for the card. All denials for various reasons.

What happened on the 26th month that apparently, somehow, mysteriously changed their decisionmaking?

I had the card on me, with a $0 balance, while on vacation and had a vehicle breakdown. I reached in my wallet and grabbed what I thought was my platinum secured card (spaced out and didn't check the card number ... both the secured & unsecured cards are identical) and used it for a vehicle repair totalling $578... My secured card that I meant to use had a $750 limit..

They approved the transaction as an over-limit transaction on the unsecured. When I got home I didn't even wait for the next statement to generate and paid it in full. Within the next 30 days I got a random un-requested CLI to $750 on that card and then an offer to upgrade it to a quicksilver at $1000. Apparently it took an over-limit transaction for them to realize my spending limits were insufficient.. makes no sense to me, but okay..

No truer description comes close. Tiring is right. I haven't tried yet to let a balance CRA post and roll over but at their high APR Rate why bother to funnel interest into their kitty expecting it might help to lift the poor thing. One thing that is going to happen is that the sockdrawer just found a spot for that card.

Re: Capital One CLI no joy

Cap1 has what people here called bucketed cards. It's easier for you to reapply for another one of their cards once you have history with them and your score or data points improves. After that, just close the old low limit card. They will still age as long as it's still in the list of closed cards for the next 10 years. That way you will get CLI from Cap 1. Well hopefully.

AVEN Visa $80k; BCU LOC $50k; PSECU LOC: $20K; Langley FCU LOC $10K; CuSoCal LOC $25k; BECU LOC: 15k; Apple FCU LOC $20k

I already tried that too. Closed a $1K Quicksilver about a year ago and also $500 Kohls.

Reapplied for Walmart and got the Mastercard at $2K-The poster above is right- so tiresome

@CreditMagic7, I guess I got to tired. Cap1 just does'nt didn'nt work for me.

Originally a Walmart MC aprroved through Synchrony,

Once Cap1 took over ..tried and tried ..never a CLI .. So they got the AXE   ...life is to short for $500 bucketed CL.

My credit is WAY better now than when I got mine which has risen to only $700.    I did a preapproval (not really wanting to have one of theirs since I'm so annoyed with them) to test this theory and just see:  They offered SECURED cards- and my lousy one is unsecured.   I'm officially over them.  UGH

Get this @Suzette2 that;s exactly what pops up for me every time too. Yeah im past the frustration and waiting and in all fairness im a scant 2 years discharged so when it comes to Prime Lenders it inhibits my chances a great deal but i'm back in this for the long haul regardless.

That's exactly why my rebuild doesn't include Capital One... (I have an auto loan with them, but no CCs)... their prequal only offers secured right now... and if they did give me a card it would be a QS with a $1000 limit.  Just not something I need... been down that road before with their cards and getting a CLI has always been a nightmare.

I'm sure they'll be throwing high limit cards at me next  year when my Ch 13 baddies fall off... but until then I have no use for their toy limit rebuilder cards.

For the record I've had my Synchrony Verizon Visa for over 2 years... $4k limit... up until 2 months ago I ran EVERYTHING thru that card... to the tune of $3k a month or more.  Always PIF on time... can't get a CLI to save my life... instant denial.  So it's not just Capital One.  Now however I have my $10k Amex which is my new go to card... Synchrony can bite me.  The only spend that card sees now is my monthly Verizon bill.

As I posted elsewhere, it doesn't make much sense to alienate so many potential good customers...but many responded along the lines of (a) be glad they gave you one when no one else did, and, (b) their business model works for them.  I guess I come from the old school place of burning customers is bad karma and is ultimately a failed business model.  But that's just me.  I'm SD mine.....every now and then I will run it up and PIF- like this month for instance- just out of spite so they don't close or decrease their lousy limit.  Once I age enough its sayonara
