Re: Capital One Walmart card

@DaveInAZ

Yes, there are Walmarts in PR.

Visited one of them frequently while in PR a couple of weeks ago.

The cash back on that card adds up quickly. One of the highest earning CCs I have.

Just a guess but maybe this is similar for being turned down for a job for being overqualified.

Basically. Discover is the same way, they're not fond of people with scores in the 800s.

@Brian_Earl_Spilner I'm curious what you mean? Because my fiancé has an 830 score and they started him at a $10k limit last year and has gotten a couple of auto CLI so far. He has put a lot of heavy spend on it though so maybe that's why.

There are quite a few datapoints of people in the 800s being denied a discover card with bogus reasons. I believe @K-in-Boston was one.

No, I was approved with a really low limit, though, and it took about 3 years to get to $10k.  You might be thinking of CapOne Venture?  I was denied for that with high scores and 20 years of previous CapOne history, so I feel Sarge's pain on the CapOne denial.  😔

As the @coldfusion  says, it's not a big deal. If you play the game long enough. You will be denied. Doesn't matter what your scores or income is, for some reason we have members that refuse to believe this . 😆

I don't remember if it was you @sarge12  that pays your statements before they cut? But if you are, that could also be a factor towards your denial.

Even if you don't intend to let them eat the apple. Dangling it in other creditors faces has always been positive IME.

I think you get my drift.😉

Closing your other tradelines will have little affect on whether you are approved or denied, IMHO.

Just my two shillings.😂

It was likely me, I pay my cards off two times or more every month. I have one card that my sister uses and pays on a very low interest card. Since I own the card, I let that be the one in the AZEO. I rarely show a balance on any other statement that cuts...usually all 0 balance. Every now and then a statement cuts while I am waiting on a pending charge to post and it shows a statement balance. I actually don't really even know the date the statements cut, or even the due date for that matter. I pay them off so often that I don't really need to know any of that. I just PIF, and then maybe 2 weeks later I PIF again. If I go to PIF and see that a pending charge has not yet posted, I sometimes wait a couple of days so the pending charge will be paid as well. It might not be the best look as far as credit card issuers go, but it makes it very easy to know where I stand as far as card balances vs checking account balances. I almost never have purchases that are still in my balance 15 days later.

No, in my story, it was you, so we're sticking with that. Tell them about your discover denial.

You just don't fit the target demographic for that particular card.  You'd probably run into similar issues if you for example applied for a card issued by UMB or NASA FCU.

I'm always sorry to read of a denial, but they eventually happens to nearly all of us.  While unpleasasnt a denial isn't the end of the world.

p.s. the score they pulled is almost certainly EX FICO 2/3 or an internal scoring.  FICO2 and FICO 3 are harsher scorers than FICO 8/9.

I do not actually worry about credit cards...I would not even lose sleep if they were all cancelled, mainly because I do not even need credit. If I actually did worry about it, this game would be less fun. If an issuer ever came to believe that they could cause me stress, I would show them how little I did need their card. It did however kind of shock me to get a denial for a new card. I have only been denied for CLI the past 20 years, this was my first actual credit card denial in 20 years. The issuers do not know it, but a 4506-T request will cause me to close any card....never have, and never will, authorize a credit card issuer to see my tax return just to keep their plastic. The only lender I ever have or would do that for is a mortgage on my house. When it comes to a 4506-T request, I just say no.

Re: Capital One Walmart card

As an update to what effect the inquiry and rejection had on my Fico 08 credit scores it did the following. Experian dropped 3 points, Equifax dropped 4 points, and TransUnion went down 2 points. In truth, I expected worse due to the triple pull. The change to all three were fairly insignificant. In looking closely, I did see that the last time any of my Fico 08 scores were below 800 was November of 2016. Most have been above 800 since 2013. Now if I could just do something about that resilency index score.TU.JPGEQ.JPGEX.JPG

Re: Capital One Walmart card

Hi I have not posted in some time, I know I am late to this thread, what I am about to say may not be liked by the moderators. First thing that I would do is reach out to Wallmart hq and complain and see if any thing can be dome. What I don't like is some of the big banks don't have recon line or any way to speak to human to go over his credit situation and why he applied for card. What is going on this country is because we need to care more about people, large companies like capital one use AI to make credit decision but don't have to take another look and treat there customers like humans. He applied for card because he wanted to save money at Wallmart and make his life easer. The resilency index  to see if you can stand the covid and the economy and pay down the your bills and make payments. If you look at this person pro file you would that his income from SSdi and his savings will not be affected and his ability to keep on making payments will be affected in anyway, he is perfect customer good customer Capital one just doen't know. If it was me I would make noise and take as far as you can with Wallmart to see if you can get change in out come, ones who make most noise some times get there way.

Walmart or Cap One could care less about the individual.  All they care about is the $ and their bottom line.
