I have heard that NASA in the past has given credit cards using a soft pull only? anyone else have experience with this happening?
i joined NASA CU = soft pull
I apped and was denied for card = soft pull
Are you supposed to join the CU before applying for the card itself?
If you join and then app for a card right away, it's a SP.
I'm not sure what the window is between joining and then apping in order to get a SP on the card.
I joined in Nov, app'd right away, denied, no HP recorded....3 mos later, app'd again, denied, HP on EX....Reconned, denied.
Reason given: "Too many open/revolving accounts and/or borrowing capacity"
They also pulled the EX mortgage score

Most definitely.
Joined in October (I think) app'd for Visa two weeks later. Approved with SP. App'd for auto loan in December. Approved with SP. YMMV
when you open the account, do you have to wait for the approval for the credit union account before applying for card?

I would assume so, since you're not actually a member until you're approved...
Possible to call them and ask to run CC app as a softball or you do it online and just hope for the best?
I think you are YMMV on this in the latter part of last year when the was a ton of apps to NASA due to the SP aspect and CL's being handed out it was common, afterwards it became somewhat of a mixed bag some had SP's while others had HP's.
