@OpenBook55 wrote:Hi guys quick question after a nsecured card graduates to cashrewards how long do you wait before requesting a CLI is it the 91/3 rule OR 6 month/6 statements? Just looking for some clarity.
Depending on your profile and if you have applied for a second card... Many have found that the best move first thing after graduation is to apply for that second card. It all depends on profile but applying for the second card and then going for the CLI on the graduated card may be the best move.
thanks for the response. Actually this is my second card with Navy but only current open card. It took a while to graduate due to util on the other close Navy card but it recently graduated and was wondering if I would qualify for a CLI after 3 statements but I think I have to wait for 6.

it's 6, assuming you were granted a CLI with the graduation?
I think if you originally put down $2k for the nRewards, you might be able to CLI as soon as you graduate assuming they don't auto CLI you

Just got my CLI of 8K instant approved. Now within striking distance of max CL.
33K --> 41K
Edit: on More Rewards
Thankfully I posted my previous CLI dp here, or I would have no idea when it was. I swear I set a calendar reminder but I'm months late on this one. Oh well.
This is nothing new for me. Every time I ask for an 8k cli on either of my Navy cc's they give me 6k.I keep a very low util on their cards 10 pct or less but I guess that darned bk7 from 2019 makes them a bit shy. They also wont reduce my interest rates.
But I still think Navy is number 1, 2 years and I have over 30k in limits on 2 cards with them
I had this exact issue and i want to say what changed it was setting up direct deposit and changing to flagship checking account, they didnt care about my savings and stuff, after a short while of flagship checking and direct deposit i started getting 8k increases and after a little less than 2 short years im at max CC exposure.

I have had direct deposit to my checking for about a year. Did you have a 3 year old bk7 on your reports too?

I did not, just couple year old collections. Do you have the flagship checking the one that requires a minimum balance of $1,500 for no fees? I also have a money market with a chunk of cash in it and savings with nothing, and a small motorcycle loan. But had all that prior it seemed like they really opened up after the dd/flagship checking. I could be wrong though.

No, I have the free checking. At this point I'm satisfied with the limits on both my NFCU cc's. 21,700 on the CR and 15,000 on the platinum. I have no plans to request further cli's. Also my income is low at 39k, perhaps thats part of the reason they usually give me a 6k cli.
However I would love a cli on my Penfed gold, i plan to request soon. Last year they gave me a 2500 cli on my PCR , 7500 - 10,000 .
I have had my first Navy Federal card for 4 months now. I applied at the 3 month mark for my first CLI but was declined with the reason max exposure. Reading the threads I have found that you can try every month until you get approved so I am getting ready to do so again now that my 4th statement cut.
I currently have a small balance and have mailed a check to pay in full but it will take a week to get there so I was hoping someone could tell me if it's better to be paid to zero with Navy, before applying for a CLI (even a small balance), or if that matters when submitting a CLI? Does usage effect max exposure with them or is that just a term they use when they aren't comfortable yet? I was surprised when my CLI request was denied after getting a decent SL with them so I am afraid now to hit that button again and just want to give myself an advantage before i try again. Thanks

I don't think it matters whether your balance is zero or not.
Maximum exposure is a term they use that takes into account many factors.

To sort of back up what SJ said, I got a cli on my CR in the past with a 3k balance so I don't think it matters much . ymmv
