Woke up in the middle of the night because of my son and wanted to check in on my NFCU as i usually do. Lol. After trying for 3 months (already passed 6 months since my last CLI), NFCU finally increased my limit on my More Rewards card from 23k to 27k. The standard 4k CLI during COVID.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Can someone who has the flagship card give me some data points? I really really want that card for the 80k limit as I would likely use it heavily!

my scores across the board are low 700s.. I only have 1 card with NFCU got it about 3 weeks ago with a SL of $1,000.. I know it's low but I've switched my direct deposit over and I've maxed the card out since receiving it and plan on doing so in the next 3 months paying it in full before statement date..

what is the likelyhood of me getting approved for the flagship card come 91/3?

I came with a Flagship question as well. Don’t have the card, but I can provide a DP: March 5th, Flagship app declined, does not qualify for minimum required credit line. March 28th, More Rewards app instantly approved at $15000, reusing the March 5th HP. 🤷‍♀️

Following up on this, I’m Looking to product change due to an unexpected series of events this month:

March 4th, CLI on CashRewards #2, $1000 to $3000.
March 5th, declined app for Flagship due to minimum required credit line.
March 13th, CLI on CashRewards #1 from $1500 to $3000.
March 28th, approved for More Rewards $15000 using March 5th HP.

Thoughts on whether this speaks to the likelihood of a reallocation & product change from two $3k CashRewards cards to one $6k Flagship being allowed? It’s odd that $5k was too much to ask on the 5th but only a third of what they were offering on the 28th, on the same HP. Makes me wonder if the Flagship is the issue, not the CL.

@Anonymous,

I would use the MoreRewards and get your $250 sign up bonus on! (count you blessing in disguise)

Would wait 91/3 and ask for a cli on that same card (YMMV)

Then think about a possible PC to The Flagship?, if that is the card you truly desire.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

181 days ≠ 6/months + 1/day all the time. I'm sure this is common knowledge, and I'm just the dufus. But I have confirmed by HUCA with four different representatives that NFCU is 6 months + 1/day for CLI.

For those like me (visual learners):

  • Example (a): 181 days from 10/01/20 = 03/31/21 (early)
  • Example (b): 6/months + 1/day from 10/01/20 = 04/02/21 (on-time)

In the above examples, (a) doesn't count as 6/months + 1/day for NFCU, but (b) does.

Luckily I HUCA after the very first representative stated I was declined because the four other representatives actually calculated the dates for me and explained why I was, in fact, early. They also confirmed I could request again with no issues because it was declined due to a "recent credit limit increase."

I have adjusted my NFCU CLI timelines for 185/days to account for short months etc.

Hopefully, this helps someone else!

Ok I am a little confused.. so you applied for the flagship on the 5th and it was a no go, you then randomly applied 23 days later for a more rewards card and got 15k? Is there like some reason you have to wait 23 days to reapply for another card after being declined? Is this also some sort of rule?

No I think that was just them randomly applying again just to see what happens/wanting to try again. You don't have to wait to try again, but I mean it would be prudent to do so, though it'd probably be better to wait more than just 23 days, IMO.

Thank you for the response! I know it's case by case and not two cases are alike but from what I'm reading and my history with my low limits.. it's probably best to just try their other products like their Amex card and just work my way to a flagship over time?
