Re: Barclays Uber Visa Refresh

TBH, this card more resemble its namesake now. I always thought it an odd point system for an Uber card anyways.

There are plenty of cards out there that are comparable to the older version.

I know that most people who had this didn't want an AF, but if you get the right card that fee can be offset by the point multipliers.

Re: Barclays Uber Visa Refresh

This really sucks. Unfortunately, in the sock drawer it goes and I won’t even bother to put some spend once the change happens. I don’t use Uber so Uber Cash is useless and I’d rather not accumulate rewards I know I won’t redeem.

I seriously hope they consider some of the feedback they’ve been given. I can only see me using the card if they did one of the following:

1) Grandfathered existing accounts
2) Offered flexibility to select cash back/statement credit AND Uber Cash
3) Created another product to mimic Uber Visa without the Uber rewards

I don’t even care that they dropped online shopping to 1% and dining to 3%. I hate they dropped most of the Visa benefits and that they’re locking you into an Uber system. If this was a card that only worked for Uber, Uber cash makes sense but because you could literally use it everywhere, it makes so sense to limit the cash back redemption. If they want to incentivize Uber rides, consider lessening cash back redemption but don’t completely axe it.

Re: Barclays Uber Visa Refresh

O well I also got the email with the bad news about the Uber card. Not going to close the account because it has 12K credit line and does not charge fee for the card, will cash out 200 dollars in cash back that I have earned since I open the card back in dec 2018, stele have an Hard pull that will stay on my transunion cr to dec 2020. I Will now starting using the WF propel card for my cell phone each month. I will take advantage of 3 percent cash advance into my checking account for 15 months when need. Will put card in the sock draw for now.

Re: Barclays Uber Visa Refresh

I got this dreaded email today as well. Mine converts over in Feb 20... card was opened in March 19. I'm now switching to my Savor One. My only good use was using this card for food purchases for 4% cash back. My issue isn't really the changes in categories but more that we will not receive any cash back... just Uber credits. I do not use Uber enough to warrant that change...

Re: Barclays Uber Visa Refresh

This was my FoTM card. If they do not close for inactivity, I'll close this summer. This was a wasted INQ and card slot for me.

iirc, it is not so simple there with the redemption of these WF points. Only via gift cards, right?

Wrong.   You can redeem as statement credit, or transfer to WF checking or savings etc ...or have a check cut and sent.   Only reason IMO to do gift card is often they offer discounts on gift cards.  For example currently gift cards are 10% off.   (100dollar gift card cost 90)

This was my buddy’s first credit card because of the cash back, now he’s finding what it’s like to sock drawer a card.

Funny.  I took the bait and went for this card (just under two years ago) because of the 4% dining.  While it wasn't bad and I had no issues, ..the card just seemed retarded and quickly made it's way to my sock drawer.  I think it'll just go deeper in the sock drawer now that it's officially retarded with these new changes.

Currently has a recurring montly charge going to it of around $3.50 on average.  I think I'll have that go to another card and point my occassinal uber rides to this card.  maybe once a quarter a small charge.

Here is a screenshot ...meat of the email they sent me today:

Re: Barclays Uber Visa Refresh

Looks like my Costco cheque is going to get bigger again come February.

I'm probably keeping this for mobile protection. I might also be able to use UberCash for airport trips if it comes to that. SD it is, or closure if Barclays CLD this from reduced usage.

I highly considered Propel last year when getting this card. The problem with Propel is that it is using the AMEX network. I might still consider it since it still includes homestays like Airbnb, which Uber/Barclays seems to have nerfed as well. EDIT: They still have "homeshare" category.
