I have been looking for a good reward CC on gas
Citi custom cash has a very nice 5% cash back
CONS are $500 monthly limit and it's combined limit if used on other purchases
PNC cash 4% on Gas 3% on restaurant and 2% on grocerys
CONS $8000 yearly limit and it's combined limit if used on other purchases
Costco 4% on Gas 3% on restaurant and grocery 2%on costco
CONS $7000 yearly purchase limit on gas and reward payout 1 time a year
Penfed 5x points on Gas 3x points on grocerys and restaurants
CONS points worth $0.85 per 1 point and points can be used on gift cards
I like citi for th 5% cash back but having a $500 limit per month and it's combined if you don't use it for 100% gas it's not worth it.
Penfed I like but the only thing I don't like is points redeem into gift cards
What are your thoughts or recommendations on reward cards for gas
Are you spending upwards of $500 (or more) per month or >$8K on gas per year?
There was another thread floating around with a similar topic which may offer you additional suggestions:

Get the Citi CC card and make it your dedicated gas card.
I have most of the cards. I prefer PenFed to use for gas and groceries. I just think they really have their act together. I am only with PenFed a few months now but I gravitate to their cards whenever possible. It replaced my BB&T Spec card for those purchases. Sorry Truist hehe
Thanks
Mark
As FinStar asks, what is your gasoline spend? For example, if you max the $500 on the Custom Cash, that's $25 per month back. If you use a 2% card it's $10 back for the month, plus 2% on everything else. So the Custom Cash gets you an additional $15 per month, but then you likely end up juggling multiple cards to try to "optimize" cash back.
There is also Sam's Club, 5%. Like Costco, it makes a lot of sense if you are a member anyway, but isn't worth joining the warehouse just to get the card.
I do not know which is the best. But, I use Costco, and am happy with it.
Sometimes, people overestimate the amount of their budget that gas takes up, since the price is in your face for several minutes while you stand there pumping it. I probably spend $120/month on gas or something like that, so we are talking like $5/month or so in cash back. For me, it's not worth getting a card just for this, though it's a nice add-on to an overall good card. JMO.
Discover's 2022 Q2 5% category includes Gas Stations (and Target). And unlike with the Custom Cash, you can combine the categories. It's capped at $1500 for the quarter ($75 CB).
Blue Cash Preferred earns 3% back on gas uncapped, on top of 1-6% in other categories. But it's an AF card. So if it otherwise makes sense, it can easily be your daily gas card (it's ours).
Between my 3 rotators, I typically get gas at 5% CB at least 3 quarters per year. And then 3% for that dud quarter. Effective 4.XX% per year.
If you are a Costco member, and you don't mind filling up at Costco, then get the Costco card. I save more filling up at Costco with 4% back than I would with any 5% card somewhere else. Their gas is Top Tier anyway. Also, Costco only accepts Visa, which limits your option more (Costco Visa being a Visa).
NFCU More Rewards 3X (3%) on gas & transit (also supermarkets, restaurants)
