Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

That's very sound advice to push from the bank, rather than pull from the credit card account.  I'm absolutely going to do that.  I really appreciate that insight!  Thank you!  Smiley Happy

Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

I guess pushing payment is a good idea too. It's just that I never had this problem before, and I assume OP as well. Good thread OP, it's nice to know I am not the only one who had this problem.

Don't mean to steal your thread... Does cap 1 reject CLI for all accounts when you have a returned payment or is it just for the account that had the returned payment?

I would assume so, because it is automated, and they never bother giving it a second look.

In my case, I would not delete my old account because, as mentioned, I bank with Cap1... and I need the old bank account there to make external transfers. Cap1 does not have the option to remove it as a payment method, even if I only need it for bank to bank transfers.

It's fine to have multiple accounts, you just have to change the payment account to the correct account before hitting the submit button when making manual payments, or just let autopay take care of the payments like I do, haven't had a problem in 1 year + since opening.

Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

OP - it sucks when situations like this happen. It can happen if you have multiple accounts as I almost had the same thing happen but since I login and check my accounts like a hawk daily, it was a quick fix. I agree that pushing a payment will resolve this but what's the point of having auto-pay then? I'm with the oldman87 on this, checking the auto-pay and making sure it pulls from the right account is necessary. I check all of my accounts daily and especially when a payment is due.

Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

Stories like these are the exact reason why I triple check which payment acct I'm using. As it appear that it happens quite often, more than I realized.

Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

Oh, and I do precisely that which is why I was so upset.  I am positive that my old acct was not available as an option and they somehow pulled it from their archives or something, but at this point I'll be happy just to have my cards working again.  I mean to have my accounts closed after ONE incident is pretty ludicrous, especially since I paid them in full and have never been late.

Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

I can’t imagine a credit card issuer closing an account due to a single returned payment from an old bank account, did you previously have returned payments on that same account? If so maybe they have some type of policy to close an account once there has been X amount of returned payments. Good luck!

Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

Well, you’ll have to imagine it then because that’s exactly what happened. My history with Capital One was impeccable. That’s why I’m so upset about this.

Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

Simple queston, didnt you get a Cap1 email confirming your account payment?  It should list the date, amount and bank for the payment.  Look for this email

>3/2016 EX 644 CK-TU 642 CK-EQ 660 WalMart- 671.
>7/2025 All 3 reports 830 - 845(F8) F9s = all 850 but my app finger is still twitching

Re: Capital One Used The Wrong Payment Acct

The email confirmation from capital one does not show the bank info. It never has.
