@NoMoreE46 wrote:I understand what you are getting at @AndySoCal. It is almost double speak, but some banks may charge a fee if one doesn't maintain a certain daily minimum in addition to requiring a DD. Maybe this is WF's confusing way of marketing...
Anyone can yank their $ DD as soon as it becomes available from WF.^*^ Typically, I have not been maintaining a min. daily balance. To avoid the $10 monthly service fee, I DD $251 every two weeks.
^*^ WF has been rolling out Early Pay Day. My WF DD comes on Wednesdays instead of Fridays. I will be migrating most of my pay from my local CU (get my DD on Thursdays) to WF now because of this.
@AndySoCal wrote:@NoMoreE46 The screen shot below makes me shake my head. Look at the two highlighted parts of the screenshot. I understand in the first part you only need of the ways to avoid the monthly fee. The direct deposit or minimum of $500 as daily balance got it The second highlighted part says no minimum balance requirment. Then what is the $500 daily balance to avoid a monthly fee a non requirement? Add to that their pathetic interest rates on savings accounts and the long laundry list fees they can charge. Wells Fargo and the other big banks to me are useless to me.
PenFed which I use and not ideal also has two day early direct deposit for me and beat out WF last week by around 8 hours or so I think.. I think 2 day early is more common these days as they know somehow it is coming. That part I am still confused about a bit maybe they have a batch from employers and say hold till said date and just release it early? I have tons of banks/cu's accounts just like the idea of having it local and not with WF although this is what the thread is about kinda although about SUB. Still silly they charge you $10 for having account if certain conditions aren't met. I mean honestly it is easy to meet those conditions unless not using it as a primary bank account and like I am 10 down the list for SUB which is still easy to meet assuming one has decent income to do this with multiple FI's at one time to collect bonuses and move $ around etc
A person's bank choice used to depend on lifestyle and work. Let's say circa 2008.
I used to travel weekly for work and banked with BofA. BofA was great for me in the North East and South East US. In Boston, there were ATMs every corner, some had like up to six stations where you could buuy a book of postage stamps When I got assigned to a new client which was a competitor bank, I opened up an account with that client bank (got a small SUB) but more so, I did it for convenience as I was working in that bank's building.
This was before internet banking. Cash apps are very easy too now.
With the internet, banking is some much more level set for the smaller players and can complete at the basic level such as my local CU and your CU.
I got a letter in the mail from Wells Fargo today, stating they flagged the account as potential fraud due to the data set (name change) not matching. The letter encouraged me to go to a branch to complete my account opening (which I did) or contact them immediately to inform them it was fraud.
I had used the https://bonusoffer.wf.com/welcomebonus link for this and could not get it to complete online. So finally got to the branch today. The banker said " oh I see why this wouldn't work for you online, you have to come into the branch for this offer" I didn't want to argue with her but we got the account setup just in time expires on the 27th.
@Adkins wrote:This is an easy peasy bonus to nab. I've been waiting for one in order to entice me to open a WF Checking account. I already have a credit card with them. I filled everything out, only to get the "you must come in person to finish your application." I do have a negative history with them (over 15+ years ago) but not concerning a checking account. I've made an appointment for Monday morning, too see what else they need. Either way, thanks for the info!
@Adkins I was sued back in the 90's for a defaulted SL and wage garnishment from WF for 2 yrs. Didnt stop a thing. If that helps.

Couldn't pay me enough to do business with WF.
$1000 for a checking account with $100 deposit? Nope. Not interested.

I had no problem once I went in branch. 😄 The banker was very cordial, which was nice.
